Thune on Ukraine: ‘America cannot retreat from the world stage’

Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) pressed the House on Thursday to pass a Ukraine aid bill, as he launches a campaign to replace outgoing Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.).

“I think that the challenge, of course, right now, with the situation deteriorating there, is to try and feel a sense of urgency about this,” Thune said in a PBS “NewsHour” interview.

“I’m hoping the House can execute on getting something passed, ideally the Senate bill, but if not something that they could send to the Senate that we could then act on,“ Thune added.

McConnell and Thune have been among the GOP supporters in the Senate of sending additional aid to Ukraine.

Republicans in both chambers have grown divided over the issue, however, particularly as former President Trump has won primaries and become the near-certain GOP nominee for president.

The House has resisted bipartisan calls from the Senate to pass aid for Ukraine. The Senate passed an aid bill last month.

Thune emphasized the need for American aid in Ukraine, as the country struggles to hold back a surging Russian military.

So this loser is in favor of more aid for Ukraine. Great.

Neither Cornyn or him deserve the leadership. Someone else should run. Urgently.

America cannot retreat from the world stag

Your score isn't any good. Your orchestra is made up of folks trained in DEI instead of playing music. You're conductor is angry, senile, corrupt and can't remember what piece they are playing, and your singers can't keep a note.

Blinken, Biden, Nuland, Austin the CIA/MI-6 laughing stock lying propogandists. You aren't putting on Tosca. It's a kindergarten farce.

I sure wish Thune was as worried about our border as he is about Unraine’s

Realistically Ukraine doesn’t have the fighting age men or the resources to beat the Russians. So other nations would have to throw in their personnel.

What nations would want to lose 30,000-60,000 men and a few trillion dollars to fight Russia to a stopping point? And what is the payoff if they do?

A neo isolationist viewing reality through a paper towel tube (or worse, a soda straw) has such a narrow restricted view that he is incapable of knowing a world stage exists, much less what is actually on it.

POTUS Ole Jerry Ford made the same plea to Congress to prevent the fall of Vietnam to the commies. The House members looked bored, turned their heads, yawned. Shortly thereafter South Vietnam was history. We retreated.

Afghanistan ... we retreated.

Ukraine .... we never had boots on the ground in a non-Nato country, right?, so we are not technically retreating.

Corrupt FJB personal involvement in the corrupt Ukraine, and bho’s 2014 meddling in the internal affairs of its elected givernment on behalf of his wine and cheese climate hoax EU pals boxed the US foreign policy negotiate any “peace agreement”. My theory is that FJB is being extorted now by the Ukrainians, and it extends to bho. Thune is in the dark.

Basically your question boils down to this - why is it in the US’ interests (not FJB’s interest) to keep funding the Ukraine-Russia war?

There does not seem to be an end zone here. Thune should be asked - what happens after the 60 billion is spent, ... will this end the war with a defeated Russia?

You really think overthrowing democracies around the world is a good and sustainable thing?

America does not have to meddle in every single conflict and dispute around the world. Enough is enough.
