Here We Go: SC Sheriff Says He Fears Constitutional Carry Will Turn State Into 'Wild, Wild West'
Bearing Arms ^ | 3/8/24 | Cam Edwards

Now that South Carolina has officially become the 29th state to adopt Constitutional Carry (and the 28th to have the law formally take effect, since Louisiana's new statute doesn't kick in until July 4th), the state's few pro-gun control voices are ramping up their fearmongering. Everytown for Gun Safety's South Carolina chapter is already predicting the new law will lead to more violence and less safety, while the state's most politically powerful sheriff says he's turning to the Almighty to protect the state from Constitutional Carry's effects.

"Law enforcement agencies in South Carolina are bracing for what could happen as permitless carry of handguns becomes more widespread in the coming weeks, with one sheriff already fearing the worst.

“I just said a prayer last night that I hope my greatest fears don’t come true, and that’s that South Carolina becomes the Wild, Wild West,” Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told The Post and Courier.

Lott’s comments came as Gov. Henry McMaster signed a bill into law March 7 granting state residents the right to have handguns in most public places."

Anti-Second Amendment activists always predict the "wild wild west" and "blood in the streets" when Constitutional Carry is passed in a state. Their predictions never come true and in most cases crime actual goes down.

It is good to see more and more states pass legislation protecting our Second Amendment rights. SC makes #29. Is there a 30th state on the horizon?

BTW, Sheriff Lott needs to be voted out of office. It is obvious he does not support the 2nd Amendment rights of the citizens in his county.

Heck, most people in states like Arizona don't even know they are constitutional carry states.

And there seems to be no increase in gun crime in any of the constitutional carry states once the laws take effect.

The truth is that crime is mainly committed by criminals.

Criminals make up a small percentage of the population but commit almost all of the crime.

The solution to keeping the violent crime rate low is deterring or incarcerating violent criminals.

The Democrats are encouraging, enabling and normalizing violent crime and preventing law enforcement so we are getting more crime.

"..granting state residents the right to have handguns in most public places."

Should be: restoring the right...

Shows the ideological bias of the writer...

I did not see where the law limits carry to residents of South Carolina.

It mostly refers to "persons".

The fact is, the ‘wild wild west” was a good deal less wild than many of our cities today.

The problem is that there are so many blacks in SC. But their criminal element is already carrying illegally.

"...South Carolina becomes the Wild, Wild West."

He must mean like in all the other states that adopted Vermont Carry, i.e. Constitutional Carry, i.e. you don't need a permit to carry concealed?

The guy doesn't know much.

If cops and judges did their jobs - and we had fast doors moving murderers and rapists to the execution chambers we wouldn’t need “wild wild west”.

Don’t believe a word these “authoritas” say. They want this.

"Bike week is going to be interesting"

Which bike week are you referring to? the harley one or the one where 1/2 of the beach stores close to prevent them from being cleaned out by BLM?

Does he mean “wild wild west” of the movies, or of the actual pioneering wild west?

Because if it’s the latter, that’d be a very good thing in these days of lawlessness.

Wild, wild west ... as opposed to being targets in a shooting gallery?

I’ll take the wild, wild west any day.
