As of 1827 I think...There were other Free States even earlier.

Yes and no. I believe NY did a kind of rolling emancipation years before the Civil War. Slaves under a certain age were freed while those over that age remained slaves. By the time of the war, there were still some slaves in NY.

This doesn’t negate the fact that slavery in NY hasn’t existed for several lifetimes. They’re not getting any money.
