The vaccine was made public but NOT mandated nationally. Biden mandated the vaccine on the Federal Level. Democrat Governors mandated the vaccines. Republican Governors did not.

Trump has not changed his position on the vax, or the mandates, or early treatment, or in observing that “it came from China”.
Trump’s opposition on the right and left are pretending to be unable to distinguish between Trump being opposed to mandates, and his taking credit for clearing away the red tape around the approvals for the mRNA vax. It appears to be working, at least on a subset of low-information voters.
Trump was never for the mandates. To say he was is not true. He did try to push Ivermectin and hydroxychloriquine first and took a lot of abuse for it.

Had he persisted he would have saved millions of people from being murdered in the hospital killing fields.
Some regret, or even remorse, might be in order.
Trump’s admin implemented the killer hospital protocols and incentives, gave the EUA order that put all this under the military, took away all liability and disclosure, and removed all requirements for standard testing for safety.
Trump’s CDC made all sorts of dreadful “recommendations” that states and companies made policy by a matter of policy.
Then, long out of office, he kept promoting them despite all the evidence of death and dire harm that those around him kept bringing to him.

He certainly did try. Trump didn’t concoct this thing. I am sure he trusted that a safe and effective vaccine was developed. It did not turn out that way.
I don’t fault him for that. I only get upset at him for being out of the loop on the harm these vaxes cause. He needs to acknowledge that he was lied to and misled on covid and the vaxes.
