Our son and his wife were the unwitting victims of a identity theft scam, in which “they” applied and were given a $20,000 PPP loan, which of course they never saw a penny. The whole scam was perpetrated through a company that applied for these loans in their name, and has long since vanished from the scene.
Now the small business administration is coming after them to repay the loan plus penalties and interest! Fortunately there has been enough of a track record of the fraud surrounding the PPP program that gives them an avenue to seek relief. Unfortunately it will cost them in time, aggravation, some money, and a mountain of paperwork.
