Berkeley parents raise $40K for private security to patrol campus as university plagued by ‘armed robbery spree

Concerned parents calling themselves SafeBears have raised $40,000 to pay for security guards or “safety ambassadors” to patrol the UC Berkeley campus area for a few weeks in early March.

UC Berkeley may be one of America’s most prestigious schools, but its location in the California Bay Area has parents and students both wary of safety on campus. A group called SafeBears, that touts itself as comprising “1,300+ Cal parents and community allies working to improve safety for UC Berkeley students,” has worked to solve the problem themselves, hoping their prototypical program of patrols around campus will inspire the college to take more action themselves.

The SafeBears website declares that “Cal parents raised over $40,000 to conduct a private security pilot program around UC Berkeley” that was “inspired by USC’s Safety Ambassadors program.” These privately hired security guards have been patrolling the campus area from 6:30 p.m. at night to 3 a.m. starting on March 6, but will only continue to do so until March 23

40 k doesn’t buy much security.

They need to focus on safety instead and leave.

That environment outside Berkley is what the graduates are learning to promote through their leftist education. Why shouldn’t it be part of Berkley’s environment? Aren’t they all about Defund the police. How about Defund Berkley security see how that goes.

Thankfully, the University is spending nicely for their chancellor....
Carol Christ -- Chancellor -- University of California, 2022 $635,626.00 "regular pay" plus $48,689.00 "benefits" for a total pay and benefits of $684,315.00.

Chancellor

So the answer is....

Taxpayers are paying and paying and paying -- for precious less than the "pricing."

So, 1,300 parents kicked in about $31.00 each to protect their kids.

$46,008.00 per year Berkeley tuition/ $31.00 to protect him/her/it from potentially death, or worse.

Typical liberals.

Great photo....

They say although such incidents are technically not supposed to be deterrents to criminals, it certainly discourages them from committing more crimes when they end up lying on their backs and not breathing again.

“Invasion of the Body Snatchers” level threat spread across 1232 acres of campus is going to take a lot of patrolling ... and $39k will just about cover the insurance.

Concerned parents calling themselves SafeBears

Awww! How cute! "SafetyBears"! They could wear little yellow armbands, fuzzy bear ear head gear, and Covid masks with little bear noses printed on them! They can call themselves "Maskies" - like the Oskie Mascot!

Sure.

What happens when “a high percentage of the people approached and questioned by the new officers are persons of color” and worse “the man arrested was Xx Xxxx (a person of color)?

Then if security stops doing anything so as not to be non-PC then how does the crime stop?

40 k doesn’t buy much security.

Unless it is $40,000 worth of guns and ammunition.

If only we could form a society where vigilantes are needed to maintain law and order. You know...maybe form a publicly funded police force? Something like that? And maybe we could hire some prosectors and judges to lock the bad guys up. And build some prisons to hold them?

Kind of like how we tamed the wild west 140 years ago? Something like that?

Here's how you round up the bad guys. "All right men! Let's get 'em!"

"Westward Ho," starring John Wayne and Sheila Bromley, Republic Pictures, 1935

They will write the check for their personal protection and then vote Democrat because if to do otherwise, they are tossed out of leftist paradise. I doubt that voting is anonymous in California. Prove me wrong.
