It depends how small you mean by small, if you mean 100 people or 1,000 people – that is without question something for the committee to look at,” Mr. Farber said. The online harms bill creates a new hate crime offence that carries a penalty of life imprisonment in the most egregious cases. Where do these idiots come from? Of course people who have their speech stifled will aggregate in darker smaller places. This has been known for at least a century, probably longer. That is why the phrases such as “the marketplace of ideas” and “sunlight is the best disinfectant” came to be. It is why speech is protected. Which is why they are taking the exact wrong approach trying to make platforms regulate speech. No. Let them be open spaces and let the users regulate themselves.
