I would love to see Ralph Nader use his same approach in banning the sale of Ev’s as he did to kill the Corvair and Volkswagen.

I read when these batteries go on fire one of the gases they expel is hydrogen cyanide which is extremely deadly. I don’t know if that is true or not, but if it is that’s one hell of a lovely thing for the environment isn’t it.

A friend is the fire chief of a neighboring town. I asked him - how do you deal with an EV fire?

His reply: let it burn.

what if its in a garage?

His reply: try to isolate the house from the garage.

It doesn’t look like Locus Nolan knows the difference between Ohio and Illinois..

I don’t know of any “Ohio highway” in Illinois.

Details are always lacking.

Were the batteries being push to their limit ? Uphill ? Cold weather ?

Charging night before in sub-freezing temps ?

from 1st paragraph:

“...a Tesla EV driving on an Ohio highway which led to a three-hour closure of the northbound lanes of Route 255 in Bethalto, Illinois on Sunday.”

The writer needs a geography lesson on the impossibility of driving on an Ohio highway with the fire in Illinois. He apparently doesn’t know that the state of Indiana is between Ohio and Illinois, thus keeping the borders of those 2 states from meeting.

Sir, You forgot to select “spontaneous combustion coverage” when purchasing your auto insurance policy. This claim is denied.

"After nearly three hours of effort, the northbound lanes of Illinois Route 255 were reopened after the burnt Tesla was towed to a nearby lot. Firefighters followed the tow truck to the lot to ensure the fire did not reignite."

The firefighers might have to camp out at the lot as it is quiet possible that the Muskmobile will reignite days or weeks later.

The charging stations in our factory were deliberately installed within 50 feet of outside bay doors. We had each station fitted with eye hooks and polymer web straps rolled up. When a battery fire would start (it won't stop) we would winch the entire gantry outside and the local fire department hazmat truck would just let it burn itself out while extinguishing whatever collateral burning material would catch fire while the battery would burn.

A charging station battery fire left inside the interior of the building would overwhelm the place in toxic fumes. You've gotta get it outside.
