Larry Hogan leads Democratic Senate hopefuls by double digits in Maryland
The Hill / MSN ^ | March 20 | Story by Julia Mueller

Republican Senate candidate and former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is leading his Democratic rivals running for outgoing Sen. Ben Cardin’s (D-Md.) seat by double digits, new polling shows.

A Washington Post-University of Maryland (UMD) poll, released Wednesday, found Hogan leading Rep. David Trone (D-Md.) 49 percent to 37 percent in a 2024 hypothetical match-up. The former governor also leads Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks (D) 50 percent to 36 percent, per the survey.

About 15 percent of Maryland voters were undecided in either hypothetical race. Trone is leading Alsobrooks by 7 points in the primary race, but roughly 4 in 10 Democratic voters are still undecided on a primary candidate.

Hogan’s surprise entry into Maryland’s race for the upper chamber seat came after speculation that he was considering a third-party presidential bid — and has propped up GOP hopes of a potential pickup in the deep blue state.

It looks like this might be a GOP gain but he'll be a thorn in our side.

I had this discussion with another person FR yesterday, Hogan at best would be a 50% is that better than a Democrat who would be 100% Democrat.

At this point in time as much as Hogan would be a PITA it would better to have him for a few key votes than another lunatic from the left.

Hogan is a gop-E RINO anti-Trumper. Wouldn’t vote for the Commie ‘RAT, but would be tough to support him.

As much as I’ve grown to despise lock down Larry, he will be far better than any Democrat running in MD.

Let’s face it a 100% MAGA candidate in Maryland is not going to happen in all likelihood, in this case take what you can get and work on get MAGA candidates elected where you can in places like Ohio, Arizona and Montana

“Let’s face it a 100% MAGA candidate in Maryland is not going to happen”

I’d emphasize that and not quality it at all.
I think we might be able to count on hogan to, at least caucus with the republicans. I’d rather have that than the alternative of having a jacked up bug eyed openly communist democrat sitting in the chair.

Yes, I despise him. Especially for the sending of millions of our state taxpayer dollars to South Korea for unusable COVID test kit. Oh gee and a while later, a delegation from South Korea arrived in Maryland to present South Korea’s highest civilian award to his Korean-American wife.

But still better than a Maryland Democrat in that seat.

If Hogan wins he’d be the next Romney.

Hogan is a moderate democrat who had no home in the “democrat socialist/communist” party. So, he became a Republican.

Judges. Although maybe not all, we’d get more judges on the court especially if he is the majority number needed to take the senate. You need numbers to do anything in the senate.

We need 1 Senator PLUS the tie-breaking VP to take over the Senate next year. THAT would be WV.

It’s widely acknowledged that MT and OH, featuring Democrat incumbents, are toss-up states.

Five other states featuring Democrat incumbents (AZ, MI, NV, PA and WI) are within reach. If things fall into place for us, that would be 57 Senators. We’ve never had more than 55.

This surprise poll indicates that MD is in play. NJ and VA are long-shots but are not entirely out of the question.

At this time, this is our path to a “filibuster proof” Senate. Just as importantly, with all these seats in play, PLUS yet other elections, the Democrats will be forced to spread their resources thin. And, while they have a very large advantage over us in resources, because they have to spread their resources across so many states, they’d be hard-pressed to overwhelm us in many races.

“What’s the difference (between Romney and Warren)?”

Scary answer, but I guess a few of you guys left here.

Here are two things to consider:
Does Romney support packing the Supreme Court with Leftists, as Warren does? Answer: NO

Did Romney support House Bill 1 in 2021, which put the methods that the Democrats used to steal the 2020 into Federal Law? Answer: NO

Lots more differences can be found, starting with Romney, NOT Warren supporting ALL of Trump’s Supreme Court Justices.

To most of us, there are IMPORTANT ISSUES, and very well may determine whether this country even survives in any recognizable form.

“A RINO is worse than a Democrat IMO.”

While I realize that RINOs anger us and the media uses them against us, they still have great value. See post 18, for example.

Romney Votes against the GOP:

https://projects.propublica.org/represent/members/R000615/votes-against-party/116

I lived in MD from 1985 to 2018. Voted for Hogan both times but was not impressed.

Hogan won MD in 2018 by wining 66 percent of the independent state voters who do not lean toward either party and 31 percent of Democrats.

Agree numbers matter however this guy is anti-Trump so if Trump wins I’d expect a NO vote on just about anything Trump may want.... assuming Trump can win is this F’d up country.
