It’s been a long time ago. Maybe twenty years? But I remember on the news one time the Miami police (or sheriffs, I’m not sure) went to some man’s home in Liberty City and tried to bust in.
The man’s house had been something else at one time like an ice house and it had really thick walls and because of the crappy neighborhood he’d fortified the place.
The police are outside trying to bust in his door and demanding that he open it and that they had a warrant. He called the FHP for help and God bless them they showed up. When the local cops couldn’t produce a warrant the FHP told them to leave.
The thing that stuck in my head is that we’re at that point where we need to leave in fortified homes because of criminals without badges and criminals with badges.
And what ever happened to having a search warrant and ringing the doorbell and being polite? The law is on their side. If there is no demonstrated history of violence, these shock and awe raids with tanks, cops dressed like paratroopers, flash bangs, and storming houses at 6am is un-American.
And that’s a crazy story about the ice house. Who would have thought concrete walls would come back into style?
