I have to believe that the early retirements are coordinated. We just don’t know by whom and to what end. Or whether blackmail or bribes are involved — or are the early retirees willing conspirators?

We are now one more early resignation, or takedown by other means, away from making Hakeem Jeffries the Speaker.

The House GOP has been ineffectual legislatively because we do not have a working majority. At this point you could not get the caucus to agree to turn on the lights.

The ONLY useful function at this point is control of the committees, which means the power to investigate, to force testimony, to issue subpoenas, to surface information, and to influence the news cycle. These things are important. The early retirees are about to throw that away.

Which may be the whole purpose of this exercise. The moment Jeffries picks up the gavel, every investigation of anything related to Biden, the border, drug smuggling, name your issue will come to an end. And the Garland DOJ will execute Operation Whitewash without a trace of accountability.

The final question is how much the dems can ramrod legislatively on a party line vote, given their willingness to break every rule in the book. They might even abolish the filibuster as the first step in a legislative blitz.
