Leprosy Is Spreading in Florida
Newsweek ^ | Mar 22, 2024

Leprosy is on the rise again in the United States, particularly in Florida..

The U.S. is experiencing cases creep upwards, with the number of infections across the country more than doubling over the past decade..

there were 159 new cases of leprosy in the U.S. in 2020, around a fifth of which were in Florida. Of the Florida cases, 81 percent were found in central Florida.

Cases in the southeastern states have nearly doubled over the last decade

...

Leprosy—also known as Hansen's disease—is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis, and is one of the oldest recorded diseases, having infected humans for thousands of years. It primarily affects the skin, peripheral nerves, mucosa of the upper respiratory tract, and eyes, and causes symptoms including skin lesions, which may be lighter or darker than the surrounding skin and may lack sensation.

Other symptoms can include numbness or weakness in the hands and feet, nerve damage, and in severe cases, deformities and disabilities.

...

The only known animal-human transmission route of the disease is from armadillos, and interaction with armadillos is often associated with cases of leprosy. However, many people also catch it from other humans, or even without human-human interaction, mystifying researchers.

"Besides humans, M. leprae is known to infect armadillos, red squirrels in the U.K. and chimpanzees in the West African countries of Guinea Bissau and Ivory Coast,"

...

Leprosy is treatable with multidrug therapy (MDT), which typically includes a combination of antibiotics such as dapsone, rifampicin, and clofazimine. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent complications and reduce transmission of the disease.

The alien invaders brung it, but the faggots and other sexual deviants nurture it.

I do believe Hansen’s Disease is treatable with antibiotics. I do believe this article is meant to induce panic and find a way to blame DeSantis.

BTW, drug resistance is being seen with leprosy, too.

My Great-grandfather contracted leprosy in the early 1930s, probably as a result of shared bunks on a trading schooner running the Tampa-Key West-Havana trade route. He left my Grandmother to live at the leper colony in Louisiana for his remaining days.

it is the armadillos.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/how-armadillos-can-spread-leprosy-180954440/

it is not very infectious person to person, but some cases in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia were caused by direct contact with such animals.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6746198/

It is easily treated with drugs. The main problem? Few American doctors have seen it.

Despite working in Africa, I have only seen one case, and that was a minor lesion that I biopsied thinking it was skin cancer. Another case that I biopsied turned out to be Kaposi's sarcoma, but one of our sisters had worked with lepers and she said it didn't smell like leprosy.

One of the subplots of the book Covenant of Water is about a doctor who treats leprosy patients before the treatment was available.

In the 1980s I worked with a nun who held clinics that gave out the medicine to people in villages in Liberia. So it is easily treated. The problem? Once the damage is done, it takes a specialist plastic surgeon or hand surgeon to fix it.

Yes and your state is rapidly becoming a liberal cesspool. That triangle is a hot spot of liberalism.
