Forget it, conference just ended. “They’re investigation”

I can understand an equipment failure or act of terrorism. Barring that, all else is on the captain as this is an accident that should never have happened.
Was the ship hacked? How could they lose control?
There were harbor pilots on board.
CYA Time.
I hate that politicians flock to the cameras and endlessly thank and praise federal, state and local government officials. These news conference are just an info commercial for big government. Your tax dollars at work.
With luck they'll have a couple newsworthy dramatic escapes to spin against the otherwise rotten news. Realistically there is a fairly short window during which those who fell into the water haven't yet drowned during which time rescue is possible. And perhaps there could be some rescuable folks entangled in bridge debris which are still above water. Anyone alive and underwater after the fall better save themselves, because the chance they'd be spotted amongst this much mess in time for rescue is minimal. Anyone still 'missing' now is either dead or was listed by mistake–wasn't actually there when it happened. Some may not be found until they clear the bridge debris from the shipping channel.
Tow and secure the ship somewhere safe and start gathering the equipment and staff needed to clear the channel is about all that can be done today. Clearing that channel and reopening the port ASAP is the only short term good news they can produce. I wonder whether any resources useful for that might already be en rout to Gaza, but that's probably Schadenfreude too far.
