Cameras from the Vessel Traffic Service captured footage of the collision and subsequent collapse. The ship’s lights went out twice before the collision, indicating possible issues in the engine room. Despite the quick restoration of lighting, this suggests a full blackout occurred, prompting the emergency generator to restore basic electrical services and lighting.
Without propulsion or tugboats, a ship this size is nearly impossible to stop.
Ships are not required to have tugboat escorts when passing under the Francis Scott Key Bridge so they have limited ability to slow down on their own when they lose power and can not put the propeller into reverse.
Early morning photos of the ship show that the port anchor was dropped. However, it is unclear whether it was dropped before the collision in an attempt to slow down the ship, or after the collision.
Don’t you worry, folks. Our illustrious Transpo Secretary, Petey Buttiplug is all over it. Right?
Has Joe Biden claimed responsibility yet?
Oh wait - he’s a train wreck, not a ship wreck...
Anybody else notice how the US has suffered one transportation disaster after another since the first homosexual-wedded Secretary of Transportation was installed?
It almost seems as if the Lord’s hand of protection has been removed from a rebellious nation.
GCaptain is on my morning coffee reading list. Great site.
As an aside to this, does anyone here know the condition of the once beautiful Inner Harbor? I haven’t been there since the late 90’s, but heard a rumor that it’s gone to hell.
The resources don’t come from the biden administration, they come from the US Taxpayer.
A while back I read about an incident in Missouri about fifty years ago. The Teamsters had a strike against a trucking company and a couple of union thugs were shooting at truckers who continued to work. Their intent was to scare the drivers or disable the trucks, but one time they hit a truck loaded with dynamite. The explosion vaporized the driver and caused quite a large crater and debris field. The good thing is that it happened on the open road and nobody else was around, except for the thugs, who suffered some injuries.
Same crew? Just curious.
They’ll blame Trump anyway.
chinese goods? chinese ports?
The Inner Harbor had gone to hell by 1995.
I heard a news report early this morning that scans of the water showed cars had fallen in - one guy was rescued from the water, the person he was with died.
Haven’t heard anything since about victims.
Wow. Thanks for that tidbit. I’ll be anxious to hear the details of that story. Somebody isn’t paying attention, it seems.
Ship lost propulsion prior to impact
Sure it did
Would that mean the ship has a mind of it’s own or was it the same captain?
Crazy it didn’t have some sort of extra support or break away sections so the entire wouldn’t collapse.
It’s a wonder the engineers or the DOT didn’t require fenders on the bridge supports. All the big bridges here have them for that exact reason.....................
The jab didn’t work fast enough. He who controls the food, controls the people. Stolen votes. Foreign land purchases near military bases.
