Pretty stupid to blame DEI this early. Right now it is believed the pilot for the boat would have been a designated by the port authority that does nothing but take ships in and out of that particular harbor.
Maybe, just maybe the ship lost power twice, called a Mayday, dropped the anchor and the ship swung in to the bridge.
True.
We all dislike all this DEI business, but who knows if it had anything to do with this.
So many knee jerk reactions to this event. We all need to wait for more facts to come out.
“maybe the ship lost power twice, called a Mayday, dropped the anchor and the ship swung in to the bridge”
Agreed.....while totally unacceptable.....sometimes doodoo occurs.
Was the pilot a diversity hire or someone’s nephew ?
I wondered if the boat was being navigated by the ships crew or a port pilot.
Top to bottom there must be a merit-only process in place for hiring, promoting, assigning, unassigning, and terminating people on anything. As soon as “Merit-Only” is compromised then the organization is more susceptible to failures like occurred.
Personally I’m a believer that having Diversity is a very good thing. But it needs to be used for ENCOURAGING people in unrepresented groups to upskill and to seek opportunities for growth. It doesn’t mean they will get selected for every opportunity they try to get. Even when they fail on an interview they’ll have learned some lessons and be better able to try for future opportunities with better ability to succeed.
