Seems like boondoggle to me. I'm surprised this is in Indiana, not Cali.

What dumba$$ in Indy came up with that idea.

I think these idiots have been watching too many Star-Trek movies.
They’re not smart enough to know they’re not smart enough.

build the wireless power-transfer technology in a quarter-mile of U.S. 231/U.S. 52
= = =

So at 60 mph, I am in that section for 15 seconds.

That is some powerful charging going on.

South Korea has experimented more with this idea than anywhere else, I believe. They have used electric powered buses and charging cables embeded in the roadway. The problem seen so far in their work is the cost of the idea. There are initial savings in the idea requires less battery power on board the vehicle. But that savings is far less than the much greater cost of the buried charging cable system, versus any standard traditional EV charging system.

Why not just make a giant “slot-car” track for EVs to follow?

With the power feed built right into the road, the EVs could zip along just like the little slot-cars around the track.

Of course, if the power is in any way interrupted, the EV comes to an immediate screeching halt.

They’ve got something like that in holes in the ground in New York City - I think they call them subways.

It will be sections of the highway close to town and cities so they can drain their power ?

It snows in Indiana. Especially northern Indiana where the lake-effect off Lake Michgan delivers crippling cold and several feet of drifting snow two or three times a year.

...What effect will that have on wireless charging over an icy, snow-packed road?

I’m no electrical engineer, but I know enough to ask what the energy transfer efficiency is. It has to be less than wired charging. EE’s to the rescue, please!

Methinks this will be hugely expensive.

Maybe California elites have learned the consequences of junk science EV escapism remedy for government / industrial-manufactured climate crisis imo. But probably not.

The only way to know if EVs are going to be successful is to let the free markets tell us. Government subsidies create an imbalance and make otherwise bad ideas look good. Subsidies put a thumb on the scale.

Building an electric highway is a risky idea until EVs have proven themselves in the unsubsidized markets. And as yet, there are no unsubsidized EV markets to tell us the truth.

All that said, Ford, GM, Mercedes, BMW are pulling back their ambitious plans for EVs. Perhaps they know something that Indiana doesn't.

“Indiana to build highway able to charge electric vehicles while moving”

Indiana Jones? Or one of many with the name “Indiana” (consummated while in Indiana)

OH! Indiana TAXPAYERS! Wait... a “highway project”?

FEDERAL! We will ALL pay.

Just another nail in the coffin of our Republic.

EVs, NO ONE WANTS THEM. We are energy efficient and an EXPORTER of energy. (thank you Donald Trump). We don’t NEED EVs.

What EV is going to haul my 34 ft RV? (and how far if it even could haul it?)

They are going to FORCE us into EVs, electric EVERYTHING stoves, dryers, water heaters, furnaces, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, cars, trucks, busses, trains, airplanes, ships, and whatever I forgot.

WHERE IS THE ELECTRICITY GOING TO COME FROM?

Solar panels? FAIL

Wind farms? FAIL

What electric grid can handle this new load?

NOT OURS!

We could build a new power grid including nuclear power plants.

How many BILLIONS or TRILLIONS would that cost?

HOW LONG would it take to build it?

DECADES!

They are SERIES.

Who would be behind all this madness?

“I’m not saying it’s aliens, but it’s aliens”
