I wonder what Gallagher’s payoff was. Cash would be too obvious, but he was bought off by something valuable to him. He could have done it the honorable way by not running for reelection and leaving Congress at the end of this year. Instead, he did this in a way most damaging to his district and to the thin Republican majority in the House. Unless he has some medical issue, the only answer is a payoff of some kind.
Yes, but, politics is not always about results. If Johnson got ALL the pubbies to vote to expel, it would send a message that they were united. In a very remote possibility it might cause Gallager to reconsider. (I doubt that would happen).
Bribes are laundered as book deals or Netflix contracts or government contractor no-show jobs.

Maybe they should vote to set the rule for vacating the Speaker to what it was before McCarthy, while the GOP still has a majority. Maybe that’s Johnson’s end-game.
They seem to do it right. Our guys have had three years and nothing.
