The West Needs a War Footing
The Wall Street Journal ^ | March 28, 2024 | Anders Fogh Rasmussen

Posted on 03/31/2024 11:23:44 AM PDT by MinorityRepublican

Two years after Russia invaded, Ukrainian forces are outgunned. Russia has a 6-to-1 ammunition advantage along the front lines. If this persists, Vladimir Putin’s ambitions will become a reality.

The imbalance in weapons supplies is a major failure of Ukraine’s allies in the West. North Korea delivered as much artillery ammunition to Russia in one month as the European Union has been able to deliver to Ukraine in one year. Russia produces three million shells a year, while the U.S. and Europe combined are able to produce only 1.2 million for Kyiv. Despite the vast economic might of the democratic world, we are being outproduced by an arsenal of autocracy in Russia, Iran and North Korea.

If Western allies don’t immediately ramp up the supply of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, the future will be bleak. If Mr. Putin isn’t stopped in Ukraine, it will mean decades of instability and conflict in Europe. We need to wake up to that danger and put our economies on a war footing.

Blah blah blah
If you have any awareness of the capabilities of our adversaries and you advocate for weakening our defense,
Your brain could not be much more addled than that.

Its not an “old saw” it’s reality since the beginning of time.

Why would Russia do that?

Why wouldn't they?

Zelensky says all he needs is weapons, and everything will be fine, and he cannot lie.

The Russians could believe him.

You are correct on both war prepping and the Draft. Problem is we are ill prepared for war with Russia or China. Senile Joe has destroyed our military in ways I could never imagine.

The Ukrainian Army may collapse just like what we saw during the Fall of Saigon and the Fall of Kabul.

You preferred the ammo stocks and weapon manufacturing rate as it was 3 years ago for America and our allies?

Budapest Memorandum

A piece of toilet paper signed by Clinton.

Lacking 2/3 Senate ratification, it is meaningless.

MIC does not imply just defense companies. MIC = corruption, fraud, political influence for useless wars …. In order for the MIC and politicians to wage their corruption the need your sons to die for that fraud.

Do you really see the MIC and defense industry as the same? You may be a bit dense or not understand the amount of money, power … is part of our warmongering ways.

From what I read here it is the increase in weapon production by America and our Western allies and the resulting increase in military readiness of America and NATO that is what the pro-Russia crowd is freaked out about.

And it is pretty hard to face China and North Korea, Iran, and Russia without us, NATO, and all of our friends and allies building new weapon factories and increasing military readiness.

Did you prefer where we were all at in regard to ammo and weapon production 3 years ago?

“Budapest Memorandum.”

Useless here. It was not a military guarantee and committed us to nothing. As it was never submitted to the Senate for ratification it is not legally binding on us. That it was a Bill Clinton promise makes it even more worthless.

I am thinking more along Eisenhower warning about the MIC in his farewell address. He saw the power and corruption even then. That is the MIC I am talking about. I get the impression that you might not be American or you’re intentionally being difficult or maybe when I say MIC you think something else or you’re just for the forever war and eventual bankruptcy of our country. Something just isn’t adding up. I am all for a strong American defense but this forever war that has gripped my country just is very corrupt.

I have no clue what you are advocating for. I think you’re a forever war person or your anti liberty/freedom that made this country strong. You’re just off and things in your argument/discussion just are not right. NEOCON but something else also.

I have to assume you preferred our ammo and weapon making capabilities for us and our NATO allies of 3 years ago and don’t like the new readiness awareness and the improvements we have all made since Russia invaded Ukraine.

You can all scream and cry but we should ALWAYS be prepared for war with our potential adversaries.

That's why we're where we're at. There are a lot of globalists in this country, including in government, who determined "we" needed to be de-fanged because our adversaries are those same globalists.

While the citizens of Europe embraced how we liberated them not once, but twice, the Leftist globalists resolved to never have the U.S. show up and ruin their plans again.

Laughable. What country do you see as a military threat to the USA? We are more powerful that the next 7 combined. You’re just a dupe of the neocons and defense industry.
Fear fear fear and never enough. The fact is, your crowd has a war fetish and uses sophistry to push for more. It’s an old saw. Our founders knew that standing armies were a threat to freedom.
