[Granted, my factual knowledge is a month or so old; however,AFAIK, the Rand is now worth $21.00 Rand to $1.00 UDS.
I believe that that is MORE than 20% less, than what it was worth 30 years ago.

If you have a more updated, factual number comparison, please let me know,]

20% of is 80% less. While not good, it’s moderate in comparison to the travails of the Rhodesian dollar, which had seen over a dozen or so zeroes tacked on, 30 years after Ian Smith stepped down, just to buy a loaf of bread.

Was it a comedown from Boer rule? Certainly. But in the same time span, the currency has done better than Indonesia’s, which had a zero added on. And Indonesia, while not exactly well-run, is no Zimbabwe.

That’s all very true, but I thought that the Rand had lost even more than 80%. But then, it’s not a currency I think about every day, nor one that I keep up with. It’s just something that comes up, during family chats, every now and again, so perhaps my math is somewhat “off”. But it did come up a few weeks ago, which is why, at that time, I was told that it was 21 Rand to 1 USD.
