I remember two signs that went up on homes back then.
SOUL BROTHER
and
“THIS HOUSE IS NOT ARMED.” (This one did not stay up long as during the riots people fled to gun stores only to find the 1968 Gun Control Law had been passed.)

***JFK, MLK, and RFK ***

Add to it Medgar Evers(killed) and Julian bond.(Shot but not killed)
The democrats used these to try and register guns in violation of the 1941 Congressional decision against gun registration. So they passed the 1968 gun control law.
