Those are its main drawbacks, of which Musk is well aware, and because of which he was dismissive of the idea. But now he’s done a 180, and believes the hydrogen-powered engine’s time has come. That’s not something he does lightly. Don’t know what’s changed. But something definitely has.

The chemical bond in water is very stable so breaking it into H and O using electrolysis works but isn’t efficient. An energy source is still needed to produce the hydrogen gas, which can then be combined in a fuel cell with the oxygen in the ambient air to generate a DC current and generate a pure water exhaust.
Recharging such a car would be pretty fast, but the volume of stored hydrogen is large. Liquid fuel is more compact than hydrogen. Also hydrogen storage leaks because hydrogen atoms are tiny and tanks have to be under great pressure.
Kevin at Engineering Explained has a number of vids about the science, engineering, approaches, and pitfalls. Contrary to what you may have seen here from trolls here and elsewhere, he isn’t an electric car fanatic, he likes cars and he likes facts, rather than kneejerk responses and agendas.

...most likely the H2 is from Natural Gas production, water hydrolysis is a net energy loser.
Another corn-ethanol boondoggle in the making, probably!?

There is no “water engine”. This is click bait for promoting hydrogen fuel cells. Correct. It takes more energy in to create the hydrogen, than the energy you get out of exploiting the hydrogen to power an engine. Totally wasteful, unless you're using it in a spacecraft in outer space and have abundant solar energy to power a fuel cell conversion of water to hydrogen and oxygen.

“It’s the conundrum humans face with regards to life on earth.”
Out depopulationist buddies, such as Gates, already have a fix for this. Just get rid of excess people and many of the shortages just go away. Then the elites will have plenty.

Yes I know, & I know that vaccines will help in lowering the population, because Bill Gates told us so in a TED speech. 🙂👍
Shouldn't vaccines raise the population numbers though, by saving lives?

This looks like a massive disinformation campaign.
I see NOTHING from Musk.
This is all over YouTube and Facebook, which are competitors to X/Twitter.
I also see similar posts over the past few years.
No one seems to have a link to a post by Musk or a press release from Tesla.
Don’t fall for this.

I wonder...
...how much power does it take to pump the water into the tank to begin with?

I designed several electric water vapor engines a long time ago but I was never able to get the math to work out in my favor. Here's a water vapor engine...

We humans NEED the oxygen in the 'air' to continue to live!!
It's already down to 21% - so I sure don't want LESS of it to breathe!!

If they could make it run on yellow water, they could use one on the senior center bus, and on long field trips, the seniors could take turns filling the tank.
The G-Wiz is just the thing they need!
The REVAi has been panned by many critics, including criticisms that it is underpowered, unsafe, and ugly.[26] The BBC programme Top Gear has consistently and incessantly lambasted the G-Wiz, named it the Worst Car of 2007 and then even blew it up later in the same episode; co-presenter James May referred to it as "the worst car for this year - and indeed for every other year whilst we have breath in our bodies — it is the most stupid, useless and dangerous car
ever to stalk the earth. It is totally terrible, and disgusting."[27]

It’s not a “water” engine. That’s to make us think that water can be a fuel. PopSci ad offered that decades ago! Along with X-rays glasses, etc.

Come to WA state and tell the government about it. They are going to hydrogen powered busses in our area... They are using coal to get hydrogen, the plan was to us it to test out if it works on mining equipment, to power it. Except they don’t want to mine anymore. They changed it to buses, dudes are smart enough to know it is a scam, but also clever enough to make money on a failed scam.
