In 1973 abortion was generally regarded as disreputable at best. Roe was slipped in during an anomalous period of time when the bulk of the populace was preoccupied elsewhere. idk any poll results but I recall how it was,

If state maps are any indication, I found one indicating the degrees of bans against abortion by state at the time Roe was decided.

Pretty much the entire nation banned it in most cases, except for NY, CA and WA. There was not talk of "trimesters" at all at the time.
