Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Initiates Unprecedented Move to Stall FISA Bill — Demands New Vote After House Uniparty Approves Bill Granting ‘Deep State’ the Power to Spy on Americans Without Warrant

Representative Anna Paulina Luna has called for a rare procedural move to delay the Senate’s consideration of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Section 702 extension, pushing for a new vote in the House of Representatives.

This move comes in the wake of the House’s approval of a bill that further empowers the ‘Deep State’ by allowing it to surveil Americans without a warrant.

On Friday, the House cast a vote of 273 to 147 in favor of extending Section 702 of FISA, a provision originally enacted in the aftermath of September 11, 2001.

This legislation permits U.S. agencies to monitor foreign targets abroad but has come under scrutiny for its implications and past misuse in surveilling American citizens. The vote displayed a uniparty alliance, with 147 Democrats and 126 Republicans supporting the bill, while 88 Republicans and 59 Democrats opposed it.

So what is the rare procedural move made by Rep. Luna, and does it have a chance of working. Maybe someone else with legislative experience in the House can enlighten us all on this point.

She made a motion to reconsider the vote.

This means the bill cannot go to the US Senate until sometime next week. First, the US House will have to have a vote to table the motion to reconsider the vote - which will pass.

It's a stall tactic to keep it out of the US Senate for as long as possible.

If the House votes to vacate the Chair of the Speaker before the motion to reconsider is voted down, that should delay the bill further, yes?

No real support for that. It's sadly a done deal to renew legislation that has been illegally used against Americans who don't toe the line of the power mongers.

“It’s a stall tactic to keep it out of the US Senate for as long as possible. “

But it gives a few days for the voters to CALL THE TRAITORS AND YELL AT THEM TO VOTE AGAINST IT!

It might be more persuasive if people announce primary challenges because of this vote. They understand that more than angry callers on the phone lines.

What was so persuasive that Speaker Johnson learned in the classified session that convinced him to do this, I wonder. Not the specifics, but what kind of information?

The Republican majority in the House is thin enough that only a few Republican reps are needed to force the Rats to support Johnson's Uniparty agenda. Otherwise, the House shuts down, which is better than the present status quo.

I’m starting to think they all know something none of us know.

I remember once upon a time long ago when this monstrosity was supposed to be just temporary. Some of us said then it would never go away. We were right of course.

Yes,

MTG needs to pull the plug on the speaker.

He shoudl NEVER have allowed the renewal of 702.

The fact that Johnson has shows that his usefulness as a non deep state Speaker is at an end.Additionally he made a fool of Trump. at Mara Largo.

Out , out damn spot!

Kudos, Rep. Luna. Keep the heat on those representatives who are backing the Deep State.

It wouldn't need to be that serious. It could be just personally embarrassing like campaign funding irregularities or something one of his kids did. Johnson's grasp on power over the Republican conference is tenuous enough at present that it wouldn't take much to force him out of the Speakership. He knows that.

I wonder if it has something to do with the way illegals are being treated as citizens while they await their asylum hearing that is causing the pucker factor.

I agree. There is something brewing.

She made a motion to reconsider the vote.

According to this article (House passes FISA renewal capping months of GOP infighting), she made a motion for a recorded, that is, roll-call vote on Rep. Turner's motion to table Rep. Lee's motion to reconsider.

The legislation, however, remains stuck in the House. Right after the bill passed, members went back and forth as to how to proceed. Rep. Laurel Lee (R-FL) called for a motion to reconsider the vote on the FISA bill, pushing House Intelligence Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) to call for a motion to table Lee’s motion. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) demanded a recorded vote on the motion to table, which will take place as early as Monday — keeping the bill from reaching the Senate until that time.
