Russian troops advance in Ukraine as Kyiv runs low on air defenses
The Washington Post ^ | April 12, 2024 | Isabelle Khurshudyan and Serhii Korolchuk

As Ukrainian officials plead for more Western arms and a U.S. aid package remains stalled in Congress, Russia is advancing on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine, seizing new territory and intensifying attacks to capture the town of Chasiv Yar and others in the Donetsk region.

Away from the front line, Ukraine’s dwindling air defense capabilities are showing vulnerabilities, as more Russian missiles and drones are able to hit targets such as critical infrastructure facilities.

Outside Kyiv — considered Ukraine’s best-protected city — the largest power plant serving the capital was destroyed Thursday, stoking concerns that Ukraine might be running out of surface-to-air missiles to counter the Russian airstrikes.

“We need air defense systems and other defense assistance, not just turning a blind eye and having lengthy discussions,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

For months, Ukrainian military personnel have described the battlefield situation as dire due to a shortage of weapons and soldiers amid a renewed Russian offensive. They have reported increased Russian bombardment using guided air bombs, dropped from their planes onto Ukrainian military positions.

With resources running low, this assault in eastern Ukraine could threaten larger towns and cities such as Kostiantynivka, just west of Chasiv Yar — potentially advancing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s goal of seizing the entire Donetsk region, which he has already declared, illegally, to be annexed by Russia.

This is NOT OUR WAR. Stop spending America’s dwindling wealth to support this deadly war.

It’s a shame no one in Ukraine understands the concept of a peace treaty.

Inevitable, and we shouldn’t give them one more dime or weapon. A few copies of a surrender document or peace treaty might help.

Ukraine either surrenders or loses everything east of the Dnieper river at minimum.

And, Putin has made it clear that Ukraine must remain neutral and disband its military.

The Ukrainians understand the difference between a peace treaty and surrender. Let Russia suggests some terms that the Ukrainians could accept, something short of the complete domination that they are demanding.

It sure is nice to note the EU was incredibly prepared for such military encounters.

To think they ever could have let DEI, illegal immigration, and Global Warming crud take priority over military concerns is to not trust the EU to have learned for its long history.

“some terms that the Ukrainians could accept”

I understand they want everything, including the Crimea. Fat chance they’ll ever get that back.

Low?

They ran out the first time almost six months ago and the second time about six weeks ago.

The ruble is still in the toilet despite energy prices moving 20% higher.

But hey as soon as MAGA oil hits after Putin has died for the 7th time. Russia will have won exactly what they were after all along like magic. Putin the KGB mensa candidate will have executed the perfect plan all along. The folks that said this would be over in a month will still be posting as if it was a month later.

Just a heads up that China is playing 4D chess too and will be taking over the world.

“It’s a shame no one in Ukraine understands the concept of a peace treaty.”

“not just turning a blind eye and having lengthy discussions”

It’s also a shame that the foreigners don’t understand how our government works, and they don’t care that we’re going bankrupt.

That is the biggest shame of all!

Despite $200,000,000,000,000 of debt/unfunded liabilities-

our govt is borrowing at 4%, Russia is borrowing at 16%

and they don’t understand that we’re going bankrupt.

"It’s a shame no one in Ukraine understands the concept of a peace treaty."

You don't get blank checks with peace treaties.

PUTIN doesn’t want peace.

2022/12/28/ President Zelenskyy shared his Peace Plan

Excerpts from the Ukrainian 10-point peace formula President Zelensky outlined:

1. RADIATION AND NUCLEAR SAFETY
Russia must immediately withdraw all its militants from the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The station must be immediately transferred to the control of the International Atomic Energy Agency and Ukrainian personnel. The normal connection of the station to the power grid must be restored immediately so that nothing threatens the stability of the reactors.
The same goes for the crazy threats of nuclear weapons that Russian officials resort to. There are and cannot be any excuses for nuclear blackmail.

2. FOOD SECURITY
the initiative, Grain From Ukraine has already begun. Ukraine can export 45 million tonnes of food this year. And let a significant part of it be directed to those who suffer the most.
Each country can join with a specific contribution and become a co-creator of the victory over hunger and the food crisis.

3. ENERGY SECURITY
About 40% of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was destroyed by strikes of Russian missiles and Iranian drones used by the occupiers.
A related goal of this terror is to prevent the export of our electricity to neighboring countries, which could significantly help them stabilize the energy situation and reduce prices for consumers.
I thank all our partners who have already helped Ukraine with the supply of air defense and missile defense systems. This allows us to shoot down some of the Russian missiles and Iranian drones.
If Russia is trying to deprive Ukraine, Europe and all energy consumers in the world of predictability and price stability, the answer is price restrictions on Russian energy resources & forced limitation of export prices for Russia.

4. PRISONERS and DEPORTEES
Thousands of UKRAINIANS – military and civilians – are in the Russian captivity being subjected to torture.
In addition, 11,000 children know by name were forcibly deported to Russia. They are separated from their parents in full knowledge that they have families.
Additionally, hundreds of thousands of deported adults and political prisoners are held in Russia and in the temporarily occupied territory as well as in Crimea.
We must release all these people.

5. UNITED NATIONS CHARTER AND UKRAINE’S TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY
The validity of international law must be restored without any compromises with the aggressor. The UN Charter cannot be applied partially, selectively or at will.
Russia must reaffirm the territorial integrity of Ukraine within the framework of the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the applicable international legally binding documents. It is not up to negotiations.

6. RUSSIAN TROOPS AND HOSTILITIES
Russia must withdraw all troops and armed formations from the territory of Ukraine. Control over all sections of Ukraine’s border with Russia must be restored. This will result in a real and complete cessation of hostilities.

7. JUSTICE
The world should endorse the Special Tribunal regarding the crime of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and create of an international mechanism to compensate for all damages caused by this war. Compensation at the expense of Russian assets because as the aggressor must be responsible to do everything to restore the justice it violated.
A resolution of the UN General Assembly regarding an international compensation mechanism for damages caused by the Russian war has been proposed and endorsed.

8. IMMEDIATE PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT
Millions of hectares of forest were burned by shelling. Almost 200,000ha of Ukraine land is contaminated with unexploded mines and shells.
I thank all the countries that are already helping us with de-mining. However, there is an urgent need for increased number of equipment and experts for these operations.
Funds and technologies are also needed for the restoration of water treatment facilities.

9. PREVENTION OF ESCALATION
Ukraine is not a member of any alliances. Russia was able to start this war precisely because Ukraine remained in the grey zone – between the Euro-Atlantic world and the Russian imperialism.
An international conference should be held to finalize the key elements of the post-war security architecture in the Euro-Atlantic space, including guarantees for Ukraine. The main outcome of the conference should be the signing of the Kyiv Security Compact.

10. CONFIRMATION OF THE END OF THE WAR
A document confirming the end of the war should be signed by the parties when all the anti-war measures are implemented and security and justice begin to be restored.
States ready to take the lead in this or that decision can become parties to the arrangement.

American Taxpayers Are Now Slaves to Interest Payments - 11/28/2023 Heritage Foundation EXCERPT:

Interest on the federal debt is now so immense that it's consuming 40% of all personal income taxes. The largest source of revenue for the federal government is increasingly being devoted to just servicing the debt, not even paying it down.

The problem is getting worse daily . . .

US national debt tracker for April 12, 2024: See what American taxpayers (you) owe in real time

Thanks to a combination of high inflation, rising interest rates and unrelenting growth in the national debt, interest payments are expected to triple from nearly $475 billion in fiscal year 2022 to a stunning $1.4 trillion in 2032.

Given that the left refuses to cut spending on wasteful communist-socialist pogroms and too many politicians overall refuse to cut spending on pork . . .

Some time within the time-span of mid 2027 on up to mid 2029, all of personal income taxes will be paying all of the interest on the national debt. None of personal income taxes, will be paying down the national debt.

With that in mind, along with the bottlenecks, chokepoints, and roadblocks created by government bureaucratic regulations, weighing heavily on what American producers can/might do . . .

Plus the theft by the left, as the left steals what it can by way of thoughtless Biden (and successor) socialist-group-think edicts . . .

Dodging recently-re-released criminals between the defense plant and home, and 'empowered women' not apparently lined up at the military recruiters' offices . . .

Is not conducive to eastern Europe finding relief from the government inventions made up by the Democrat Party.
