Poll: 74% of Israelis oppose counterstrike on Iran if it harms security alliances
THE TIMES OF ISRAEL ^ | APRIL 18, 2024 | STUART WINER

Posted on 04/18/2024 6:13:31 AM PDT by nwrep

Nearly three-quarters of the Israeli public oppose a retaliatory strike on Iran for its massive missile attack on the country if such action would harm Israel’s security alliance with its allies, according to a poll published Tuesday.

The Hebrew University survey also found that over half the public believes Israel “respond[s] positively” to the military and political demands of allies.

Israel has vowed to retaliate after Iran overnight Saturday fired over 300 missiles and drones at the country. Almost all were intercepted before they reached the country as the United States led a coordinated air defense shield that involved Israeli, American, British, French and Jordanian forces, reportedly along with radar and intelligence input from some Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia.

Netanyahu possibly losing the widespread support he had after October 7.

I think that Biden and Blinken were correct in telling Netanyahu to “take the win.” The Iranian attack proved toothless and exposed the weakness of the armaments.

Had there been casualties I think that Israeli sentiment would be quite different.

Push poll.

You can write a poll to slant the results how you want.

For example:

1. Do you feel Israel should respond when attacked by a foreign country such as Iran?

2. Do you feel Israel should take unilateral action to escalate conflict even when its allies are opposed to such action?

It’s fun getting push poll calls and pointing out their bs.

The question should be reversed, and Israelis should be asked if NOT RESPONDING to the Iran attacks would keep them safe, and would Iran be emboldened to do it again if Israel doesn’t respond.

And, “neocons” has nothing to do with the question. Somebody has a fetish for the word ‘neocon’.

Netanyahu is politically dead, and everyone knows it.

But he is the a$$#@/& you want in charge while dishing out the punishment to ham ass.

So, the Israelis are a thriving democracy, messily moving to the beat of the popular will.

“University surveys” are usually nothing more than garbage. Same thing as “elections” in this country. The far-left scumbags decide the result they desire and then manipulate the sh*t out of everything until they get the result or stolen “election” they desire. The GOOBs just play along with them because of their gullibility.

Deferring a definitive strike against Iran’s military capabilities (directly or indirectly) is kicking the can down the road. Do Israelis believe that Iran won’t attack again in the years to come, except with more formidable weaponry against which an effective defense is less guaranteed?

They are, but the poll is probably just designed to give the answer desired, like most polls.

Doesn’t mean this is not correct decision, mind you.

That’s what I’m thinking.

Iran is basically showing their hand and it’s nothing to be too worried about.

It’s called pragmatism.

The Israeli’s live in a real world where they know they have to weigh things off.

Sadly, they are dependent on us, and we are NOT a reliable ally.

—Shifting demographics in the US and West, i.e. growing Muslim and Arab population which already today impacts elections.

—Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Egypt having a greater economic value than Israel, and carrying substantial political weight in DC.

—The Arab and Muslim voice being well represented in Western MSM.

—A highly homogeneous group that is also fervent regards the Israeli issue. In fact, any decisions made in the West regards Israel could have security implications for us as this population causes unrest, poses terrorist threats, etc. example: France and Spain.

Bottom line is that Israel has an ally they “depend on for their existence,” which today already has one foot on their side and the other foot firmly resting with their opposition. We do NOT stand 100% behind Israel today and the probability is that things will only get worse over time.

Forget the merit of any arguments there may be (3 treaties and a SOFA), the historical collective Wests debt to these people, the social/political/economic/religious similarities between them and us, their willingness to compromise while the Palestinians don’t, or who started this on 7 October with a massive missile barrage. These arguments are all irrelevant. Politics and economics are what drive the decision making and even any treaty signed by us is not worth the paper it’s written on as administrations and those in Congress come and go.

Netanyahu and the Likud were caught flat footed on October 7th. I imagine there’s going to be a shake up amongst the conservatives of the Knesset.

Well American foreign policy extends beyond the Middle East.

We can’t be spending all of our time and effort on Israel when there are matters beyond the region that we need to consider.

Naturally Israel isn’t going to get our full attention all the time, they have to stand on their own sometimes.

But was saw how that turned out... WWII.

he only act of peace I can think of:
The full and complete destruction of IRAN’s Nuclear program. It’s now or never.

Once IRAN gets the bomb it’s too late.
Letting fanatical Islamists have nuclear weapons is simply impossible and unthinkable. It would become WWIII.

We need to prevent WWIII by eliminating IRAN’s nuclear program now.

Unfortunately, Biden is pushing Israel NOT to react...

I think Israel’s complete and utter destruction of Gaza has proven two things.

1. They don’t really need the US to flex their military muscle.

2. Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran have ALL proven to be incapable of mounting any sort of retaliatory response. The other Arab nations don’t really care about Gazans, either. Not even those on the West Bank.

End result, whoever is in charge of Israel will continue to do whatever they want, be that good, or bad.
