Rep. Jake LaTurner announces he will not seek reelection [Kansas]

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Congressman Jake LaTurner, who represents Kansas’ second district in the U.S. House, said he will not run for re-election.

The Republican lawmaker released the following statement on Thursday:

“I will proudly serve the remainder of the 118th Congress, but after much prayer and consideration, I will not seek reelection this Fall. The people of Kansas who elected me to serve in the United States House of Representatives have given me the professional honor of my life, but it is time to pursue other opportunities and have the benefit of spending more time with my family.

Suzanne and I are the proud parents of four young children, and for us the busy schedule of serving in and running for Congress has taken a toll. The unrepeatable season of life we are in, where our kids are still young and at home, is something I want to be more present for.

Another one! To make this decision this late in the election cycle is a deliberate attempt to sabotage a possible Trump Presidency. They know they can manipulate a special election easier (I'm assuming a special election will be held this year), and allow a democrat to take this seat.

This is all part of the painful realignment process. But I’ll admit it shows just how sorry a large chunk of the Republican Party is.

Every GOP house member needs a stand-in picked by the GOP elders just in case there are more out there. Just like the senate before that amendment-17th? We can’t get caught with our pants down as often as we do.

36 years old. Two termer. I’d give him an ok as the district appears solidly red.

I see he has an (R) next to his name, so, yes.

R+11 (safe) district, no special election needed, and a good opportunity to run an actual conservative to replace the squish who is bailing.

Election results and ideology ratings for Jake LaTurner

Not every House GOP retirement -- in fact, damn near NONE at all this time around -- imply some kind of automatic loss in whatever election follows. Not even close.

But some people have the heebie-jeebies because "oh noes itz 2018 uhgenn!", which shows that they have no clue about what is going on in 2024, and because of the one special election in New York where George Santos' fluke win in a Democrat district 2022 was reversed and the area simply reverted back to what it had been for many years.

We sure could use Santos now, and his ouster was just another example of liberal Republican cowardice -- and complicity. See also Speaker Mike Johnson, the GOP's very own Ned Flanders.

He is my congressman.
We affectionately refer to him as “Fake Jake”.

Y’all remember how Barry Obama could never say the words, “Radical Islamic extremists?” or “Muslim terrorists?”

Well, young Jake could never mouth the words, “rigged election” or “corrupt government” or “wasteful spending” etc. etc.

I have grown to loathe the Kansas version of republican politicians. They are like Mike Judas Pence. They talk the talk, they are big on “prayer breakfasts” to show their holiness.. (The local voters gobble this up.) Even I had high hopes for Jake.

Lo and behold, when it comes to a street fight, they sell us out every time. Good riddance.
