If the host country doesn’t want them there, we have no (legitimate) business being there.

Tell that to the US service men and women in Syria. We are their to fight ISIS—Like we are in Niger. Times have changed. We went into Syria to support the people fighting to toss out Assad in a Civil War. Russia supported Assad in this Civil War. Well, Assad and the Russians won, but we are still there. Why? Trump ordered the US Troops out—the generals lied to him and didn’t do it. Now we have something like this happening in Africa. When will we ever learn>?
This is likely the latest example of yet another fiasco caused by incompetent U.S. meddling in matters we have no business meddling in. We trained these Nigerians and now they have applied their training to take charge over the country and they want us the hell out of their midst. Sounds a lot like Afghanistan. We invested in building a huge new military base and now who knows how much military hardware and other assets are on the base. It sound familiar - like another Afghan debacle in the making. To add insult to injury, note that the so called U.S. Nigerian trainees now appear to be on Putin’s side.
