Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson Declares His Support for Ranked Choice Voting
Independent Voter News ^ | 4/19/24 | Shawn Griffiths

In a recent episode of The Purple Principle, a podcast that examines democracy and polarization from a nonpartisan lens, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said that while he was skeptical of ranked choice voting at first, he now sees it as a meaningful solution to elect candidates with the broadest appeal.

"I resisted ranked choice and different initiatives that would weaken the two political parties," he said. "Now I don't see it as weakening the parties as much as forcing the candidates to say, 'We've got to appeal to a broad swath of the American electorate."

Many voters may not know or remember that Hutchinson ran for the GOP presidential nomination in the 2024 cycle. His candidacy flew under the radar as the media covered Trump's legal issues or other candidates subject to controversy for their own reasons, like Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Whatever the media thought was best for ratings.

Hutchinson had one of the larger political resumes among the field of a dozen Republicans who ran for their party's nomination:

He served in Congress for a brief period from 1997 to 2001. He was the head of the DEA under President George W. Bush, served as undersecretary of Homeland Security for Border and Transporation Security, and, of course, he was governor of Arkansas.

Why of course Asa McRomBush likes a method that would result in the election of ONLY moderate pantywaists like himself, or Democrats!

Yeah - ranked choice voting is retard voting.

Choose who you want to win - not “and this is the guy I’d pick 2nd and this is the guy I’d pick third...”

RCV is just a rebranding of the proportional representation movement, which has been around for several centuries. Some countries and U.S. jurisdictions have tried it, but later abandoned it. RCV essentially eliminates the ability of an advocate of political reform, such as MAGA candidates, from obtaining electoral victories. We saw that in action during the 2022 Alaska U.S. Senate election.

Asa Hutchinson and other "moderate" Republicans see RCV as a means of staying in power. The GOP voter base has been steadily voting them out in the Republican primaries. Enlisting Democrats and centrist leaning independent voters in an RCV scheme is the tool they see to avoid the single party primary.

Ranked choice voting is unconstitutional. It violates equal protection because only the people who voted for the loser gets to change his vote between rounds.

It doesn't allow the voters who chose other candidates to change their minds too, after the slate of candidates has changed.

I don't think it's even legal. We vote for one person...they say three...well than why not 5...or 10....

No matter how you cut it...it's rigging an election.

One person....one vote...

Ranked choice and the elimination of the Electoral College are high on the globalists’ lists of things to accomplish in the near term, and I’m confident they will succeed. In a country that willfully passed an income tax 100 years ago and destroyed our Republic through the elimination of states rights to appoint Senators, I’m confident modern America will approve of a whole cloth removal of the few remaining bulwarks against tyranny.
