The article claims it will be operational in time for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Perspective - the light rail system in Seattle is now 10 years behind schedule and 5X times as expensive as the original voter initiative claimed.
Future parts of the system are expected to cost $750 million per mile.
If we had built the entire system under ground, it would have been one half as expensive as the chaotic eye sore above ground system we have now.
Hire Elon Musk to do these projects. And get out of his way.
There are casinos all over the place...No need to travel to vegas...
I’m not sure why everyone wants to go to Vegas [Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded], but it sounds like a fun project.
[It’s amazing that a 1800s tech is still so relevant these days.]
This might be the one high speed rail system that could work economically, especially if they have an entertainment car with a bar, TV, etc.
Think about it, you decide at the last minute to hop on the train in LA with your buddies to Vegas, spend the weekend having fun and come back late Sunday or early Monday.
The travel time to Vegas versus going to the airport and putting up with hassle of flying. Get on the train, have a few drinks and watch of sports on TV, maybe place a bet or two while on the way to Vegas.
This will really put Cucamonga on the map!

I hear you but a whole hell of a lot of people would have to do that to earn back the massive construction and operating costs
Vegas is evolving into more than just casinos. It's a destination for conferences like none other given the attractions, shows, restaurants, entertainment, sports, etc. They need to clean up the streets though, they have a severe visible "homeless" problem.

If you look at the number of people catching the shuttle flights between LA area airports and Vegas and compare the price to what a rail ticket would cost and the location of the rail terminal.
It can work, it has to be fun, economical, and operate a reasonable schedule.
I guess the proposal I submitted was not accepted.
Unlike other projects, Brightline has proved they can create profitable rail lines.

S. CA is full of, “Conference centers, restaurants, Casinos, sports stadiums, amusement parks, Hollywood etc etc...
This is a colossal waste of tax payer money. Not to mention a 200 mph choo choo is a real EASY target for terrorist.
It isn’t that voters are too stupid to realize these wasteful projects are unnecessary, its that developers have learned how to buy politicians and have the projects pushed forward without voter consent.
Brightline has a fast rail up and running in Florida. Unlike the buffoons in Seattle, they know how to do this. The Brightline West project will be basically a point to point line between LA and Vegas. It will follow the right of way of an existing freeway, which often is choked with traffic, thus avoiding all manner of problems with land acquisition, environmental studies etc, which have hamstrung the CaHSR boondoggle.. With connecting local transportation at each end it will be the perfectly logical place for using high speed rail. Privately funded, but taking federal startup funds as offered because why not.
Still, this is probably going to lead to Nevada going Bluer.
They should develop a high-speed line with the Triangle from Oklahoma City to Houston and San Antonio. That’s basically about 30 million people that would be served by that line.
