A Las Vegas substitute teacher and a teen student unleashed a barrage of punches on each other after a classroom argument over a reported slur spilled out into a crowded hallway in front of other students.
Re’Kwon Smith, 27, is accused of brawling with the Valley High School student on Thursday when he asked the teen, who allegedly shouted out a racial slur, to leave the classroom, according to 8NewsNow.
The altercation turned physical when the student allegedly placed his hands on Smith.
Video obtained by the outlet captured both parties swinging at each other before Smith connected several times on the pupil, eventually knocking him down.
After knocking down the unidentified student, Smith stood over him seemingly yelling as the student balled up and cowered behind his hands.
Smith remained hovering over the student, landing several more punches until a campus safety monitor and other students helped their classmate off the floor, according to Fox 5 Vegas.
“You’re going to jail, [slur],” the laughing student reportedly shouted as he was escorted away.
“I see a teacher fighting a student, I’m like ‘Wow,'” Valley High School junior Andrew Acevez told KTNV. “And then the teacher is just standing over him, just slapping him, saying stuff to him, and I’m like, ‘Wow, that’s crazy.'”

I have no sympathy for the kid. The entire debacle is a mess, the kid felt entitled, and the teacher felt entitled. Two entitles don’t make a right.
It says the student put hands on him first so I won’t blame the teacher for defending himself. The little punk probably had it coming.

It should be the STUDENT who receives punishment, preferably in the form of expulsion from school 🏫 and jail time.
Guarantee that ReKwon started it by insulting the student and verbally attacking the student in front of his peers.
AFterall, why would any student or person use a slur against someone who is older and bigger than you out of the blue for no reason at all.
I’ll also guarantee that ReKwon has a past of this behavior which was ignored during his DIE hiring process.
It’s amazing the power a word has on some people.
Was it the forbidden word that black people use every day yet somehow becomes psychologically crippling if someone else uses it?
Given the difference in size I find that highly unlikely. My guess is the kid insulted him thinking an adult would not use force and found out otherwise. Now the adult wants to justify his Actions. Be interesting to see how the interaction started but it seems the “he deserved it for using racial slurs” defense is already being employed.
I personally know people that this has happened to.

Misleading headline and framing of the dynamic if the teacher only responded physically in self-defense. That also makes the slur not as relevant.
