WRAL News: Triangle Reacts to Terrorist Attacks
N.C. Military Bases On Heightened Alert
"Military bases in North Carolina are at heightened states of security amid reports of terrorist hits in New York City and Washington.
Fort Bragg, home of the Army's 18th Airborne Corps, and Pope Air Force base are on their highest state of alert.
A Fort Bragg spokesman says it is on Force Protection condition "Delta."
That means the post is on a heightened state of security and awareness.
The same is true at Pope AFB..."
Federal Courthouses in Eastern N.C. Closed
Old Capitol Building Shut Down in Raleigh
All six federal courthouses in eastern North Carolina are closed in response to today's terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
That includes all courthouses from Raleigh to Wilmington.
Chief Deputy Bill Snelson of the United States Marshal's Service for Eastern North Carolina sats there's been a definite heightened security,
but he's won't go into specifics.
Yellow police tape lined parts of the perimeter around the Terry Sanford Federal Building in Raleigh, where hundreds of people work.
The old Capitol Building, which houses Governor Easley's office, is closed.
Easley has also ordered additional security measures at other state government buildings.
Renee Hoffman of the State Emergency Response Team says there have been no threats in North Carolina,
but the governor has ordered additional security at some sites around the city.
The team, made up of officials from several agencies of state government, had been partially activiated in response to the attacks.
It is typically activated to respond to natural disasters.
A briefing is expected for this afternoon.
.
Nothing else confirmed to report here.
Have heard friends who say that Seymour Johnson AFB (Goldsboro NC), 30 min from my office, is on full alert and that jets were scrambled this a.m.
God bless our country.

Request for FReepers not to detail military movements on FR, as whoever did this probably reads FR too.
Well, here's what's left of my city.....and it gets worse!
Well, here's what's left of my city.....and it gets worse! FreeGuards from what is left of NY!
I don't know...I do know the churches in Green Bay will be open tonight for prayer services somewhere around that time Central.
Austin-Straubel airport is closed & roads in & out are blocked by the Sheriff's dept. Three planes going to Minneapolis were diverted here. Security is high at all government offices.
Nationally, any mail, UPS or Fed Ex will be backed up because nothing's flying. Expect delays.
We are a community within commuting distance to NYC and many people worked at the WTC. I suspect that wailing and rending garments will be the order of business tonight at many homes in our town. Metro North, the train into and out of NYC, is not running except to bring wounded to Norwalk Hospital which has a burn center. My brother-in-law, an MD, is on call at the hospital "indefinitely". Many of the schools in the area either closed early or will be closed tomorrow.
I left work early, and my wife and I drove down to Long Island Sound to see if we could see the New York skyline 50 miles away. We turned back when we came to the realization that the smoke was actually a funeral pyre for tens of thousands of people.
Virtually all the churches are having prayer services tonight. We'll be at ours.
I spoke with my Mom and Dad a few hours ago in Boulder City. The Hoover Dam has been closed. The traffic that normally flows over the top of the dam, has been rerouted to Laughlin, Nevada.
On the Strip, the Stratosphere tower has been evacuated, other high rise amusements/hotels are being closed.
Government buildings closed.
Sears tower evacuation started at 9:00 our time.
Prudential, Hancock and others started sending everyone home soon after.
Museums, zoos and colleges closed.
Unattended cars are being towed, legally parked or no.
Most businesses sending people home starting between 9 and 10.
Trains and buses are being re-routed from service yards back to stations to handle the volume of folks leaving.
Mysteriously, the public schools remain open to babysit the kids.
This area is a big commuter area into NYC and many of us are awaiting for news of our loved ones and friends of loved ones safe arrival home, as transport out of the city is difficult, many highways in NJ and surrounding suburbs are cordonned off, and train service out of the city is packed and sporatic.
I can't believe the skyline of NYC will be forever changed. Everytime you come within the suburbs of NY, the Twin Towers was the first and most recognizable landmark rising out of the island, other than the ESB. It will be a devastating reminder everytime it comes into view.
Oh Senator Hillary, come out come out where ever you are...:(
