Isaac Stern: Et Resurrexit
To: SlickWillard
May God be merciful and lift Isaac up to the Light of His countenance, and may perpetual Light shine upon him.

Isaac Stern was famous for his witticisms. When asked, "How do you get to Carngie Hall?", he's the one who replied, "Practice, practice, practice!"
I'm going to miss this man. He was a really special person with tremendous talent and a marvelous sense of humor and how to entertain audiences.
To: SlickWillard
A bump for a gifted man.

RIP, master Stern.
I imagine his death as being similar to Obi Won's - he just *poof* disappeared, leaving his cloak and violin.

I imagine his death as being similar to Obi Won's - he just *poof* disappeared, leaving his cloak and violin. Sad smile. God bless you, Maestro Stern.

What a shame, a very talented man, and a huge presence on the NYC arts community. RIP.

Thanks for posting such a lovely tribute.

A friend got us on-stage seating at one of Stern's recitals twenty years back. Stern's rendering of the Schumann Fantasiestucke that evening remains with me to this day.

That's sad ... for us, anyway.
Thanks for the links.

Your tribute is beautiful and made even more special by the musical clips. But why did you spoil it with this statement:

Thanks, Slick, for the wonderful post. In the midst of turmoil, men great and small, live and die. Stern was huge.

The Beethoven Violin Concerto in D...my first Isaac Stern LP (Bernstein, NYP, Kreisler cadenzas, Columbia MS 6093). It arrived in the mail from the "Club" on Christmas Eve, 1962...I'm going to dust that off this morning and put it on tape, and play it in the car driving to work tomorrow...
"And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed" - Genesis 22:18
Thanks for the tribute, SW.

It's sarcasm. OK. But you should label it as such. People are really touchy these days. Thanks for the post, however.

I disagree. If sarcasm (or satire) needs to be "explained," then why bother?
