Supposedly, the powder has to pass three separate tests to be conclusively anthrax. Then they said it was positive for the first test and negative for the second test. Then they said the last test would determine if it was anthrax. If it has to pass all three tests, I don't know how the last test will be conclusive since the powder failed the second test.

Its probably a lot like a drug test. It goes through a cheap, dirty initial test first which isn't real accurate. Any positives are then tested further and in greater depth using a more expensive but more accurate test. It makes sense.

I was just watching the news about 20 mins ago. No doubt about it they said that the Reno test was positive. Maybe the lab guy was just a tad bit mixed up? As grim as the news sounds, its the growing panic that is the real danger. Calm people need to figure out how to lower the fear level.

or we have some really crappy testing methods for anthrax.

I think the common tests for anthrax are good enough but they take a day or two to do. I'm not sure there are any quick methods that would work ---they probably have to culture suspected material first which takes at least a day, a quick look under the microscope won't tell them anything because there are all kinds of spores around in dust and all over everything.

Well, I meant that it made sense in the point of a screening test. But now that I think about it, I'd want to be damn sure that an Anthrax test were as accurate as possible the first time. I wouldn't want a false negative. Presumably, lives are at stake.

What!? Janet Reno has contracted Anthrax? I guess that could save Florida from further embarassment...

Yes, I assumed that was why they did the third test.

Understood. I just hope that with the drastic increase in volume of "strage powder" reports, that the med people will not start taking shortcuts.

"The 'anthrax' found in Reno ...... is a very low health risk."

Wow! So, like what does this mean? This deadly germ got into Janet, but the toxic environment it found itself in was too deadly for even such a nasty germ as anthrax to survive?
Could immunologists figure out a way to study her and figure out how to create a vaccine? Maybe if we strive to become more like her in some way, it will make us immune to anthrax?
