(Carson City-AP) - - A second anthrax test is negative on a material found in a letter sent to an office in Reno.
State officials say that's despite a first test that was positive for the potentially deadly germ on pornographic material received at a Microsoft office.
Washoe County District Health Officer Barbara Hunt says a third test will be done. But the substance is probably no anthrax, she says.
The results of the third of three test won't be available until tomorrow.Meanwhile, health teams are contacting Microsoft employees to determine who might have handles the letter from Malaysia.Doctor Randy Todd, the state epidemiologist, says the Washoe County Health Department and the FBI are involved in the investigation.
It began after one company employee got a returned letter that had been opened and appeared to have been moistened and then dried out.
THE LOCAL ANTHRAX SCARE-
CARSON CITY-State health officials are analyzing a letter sent to Microsoft Licensing from Malaysia that appeared suspicious to employees.
By 3:00 pm, contents of the letter tested "presumptively positive" for anthrax.
By 6:40 p.m., the letter's second test was negative for anthrax.
Additional testing to confirm the presence of anthrax is ongoing and is expected to be complete by Saturday.
The contents of the letter had a number of things growing on it, like bacillus, the genus to which anthrax belongs.
I'd really like to know if they received a call from a high gov't official in the last few hours.
The panic lid is being nailed down tight...
just move along folks...nothing to see here..
