"So, he's got the right to say whatever he wants, right?"

Isn't that infuriating? How many times in the past have we heard some idiot say something so totally of the wall that we wanted to choke him, only to be told "he's got the right to say whatever he wants"?

I absolutely hate that response (it usually comes from liberals).

I recall what Robert Bork said not long ago: "He may have the right to say it, but it's still contemptible". I also recall another fellow, somewhat further in the past, say "Against stupidity the very gods themselves contend in vain."

Words to live by.

Although, to tell you the truth, this is all a little hard to believe. This goes beyond the run of the mill crass stupidity of your typical 18 year old. Fiction?

Forget the past for a moment. How many times in the here and now do we see it happen right here on the FREEP? Like it or not, that is free speech, ladies and gentlemen. But we have just as much right to denounce in turn comment we despise as contemptible (as, to name just one example, Judge Bork did in the quote you cited yourself), as does anyone else have to make contemptible comment. Frank Chodorov was right: Let them rant their heads off - that is their right, which we cannot afford to infringe - but let us keep from them the political means of depriving everybody else of the same right. (And anyone who doesn't think an animal rights extremist such as young Mr. Ryan appears to be would try depriving everybody else of their free speech right to dispute his view, if granted any position of political authority, you sure haven't been following the ways of PETA, his obvious kindred, that closely...)

What is truely contemptible is that he personally witnessed the towers being destroyed. I wonder if he watched as the people in the top floors hugged one another before they jumped to their dead.
