Do you see anywhere in this discussion where fractals might fit in?

Well, no, I don't. But some people have seen in fractals a direct mathematical realisation of the Emerald Tablet's "as above, so below". You'll find some serious weird commentary on the holographic universe, complete with fractals, here. But beware! This is the contemporary end of a chain of speculation that leads back to Johannes Duns Scotus' Peri physeon, from which few emerge unscathed.
