The Rainbow does not exist without an observer. Materiality is not primary. Conciousness is primary, and materiality arises out of it. The question for me, then, would be what is this conciousness? From where does one's thoughts actually come?

"This life of yours which you are living is not merely a piece of this entire existence, but in a certain sense the whole; only this whole is not so constituted that it can be surveyed in one single glance. [tat tvam asi] I am in the east and the west. I am above and below. I am this entire world."

Is this, perhaps, true for all of reality?

I don't know. Perhaps. What is an "observer?" Where does thought actually originate?
