The fight over the nomination of Mississippi Judge Charles Pickering to the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals is the most intriguing such battle since the Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas nominations to the U.S. Supreme Court.

It also is indicative of larger battles to come, when President George W. Bush has an opportunity to fill a high court vacancy.

I was shocked and mortified by the venom Trevor Coleman put into his column concerning Judge Charles Pickering. What an abomination! It disgusts me that an injustice was done to a decent man, and Trevor Coleman chose to spit on him while he's down. character assassination Trevor, you should be ashamed of yourself for joining the lynch mob that has attacked and smeared a decent, moderate Judge, Judge Pickering. This is a man who already sits on the Federal bench after having been unanimously confirmed by a previous Democratic controlled Senate.

The truth is the extremists who on the loose are the collection of Lefist organizations who want to bottle up Bush nominations and are willing to lie about and smear nominees in order to get their way. They and Senate Democrats like Charles Schumer oppose Pickering because they oppose anyone who does not meet their litmus tests on abortion. Even the Washington Post called

This was a malicious "Borking" of a Judge who happenes to be too conservative in philosophy for the leftwing special interest groups and the Senate Democrats. He says 'some people' from his hometown support Pickering. Not just 'some people', but Medgar Evers' brother, who is former NAACP field director in Mississippi is not just anyone.

Until Republicans take back the Senate, we now know that left-wing special interest groups like the ACLU and People for American Way will be selecting our Judges. That may suit Trevor Coleman fine, but he at least should be honest about what is happening and stick to facts instead of smears in the process.

It won't stop unless we shred the reputations of a couple of the judges that Levin wants on the Sixth Circuit. I say we bork them in response, and bork the folks doing the borking. And if Senator Hatch tells us to butt out, ignore him.

Hatch is a good man, and he did a heck of a job out there. But he couldn't hold a grudge if it meant saving his life.

This means we must begin winning over voters in the mushy middle and winning over fringe party voters on the right. I did not see a single Libertarian Party, Constitution Party, Natural Law Party, or Taxpayer Party member vote for Judge Pickering today. I did see nine Republicans vote for him and ten Democrats vote against him.

Agreed. Like it or not, we have to commit to the GOP full-tilt, and remember the lesson of the parable about the old bull and the young bull.

Only then, can we defeat the left.

What's the point in posting this garbage. It's the same lame PFAW smear on Pickering that has been refuted a thousand times.

To win the muchy middle, we need to follow David Horowitz' approach. the extremists and leftists played a game here of "marginalizing" Pickering. It is what they did to Bork, and what they do constantly to move our CULTURE to the LEFT. They are MARGINALIZING the BOY SCOUTS as we speak, via the United Way ostracism. ... Now, the right response is to EXPOSE the GAME.

That is why I would ask you to FREEP this columnist. LIBERALS ARE GOOD AT WRITING HISTORY TO SUIT THEIR AIMS. They tell the story, and if we dont answer it with truth, the 'mushy middle' will believe it ."Oh, the Senate rejected this racist guy" ... THEN THEY WAKE UP 10 years later and wonder why all the Judge's write nutty rulings (eg like the boneheads in charge of Florida's Supreme Kangaroo Court last December). Why? Because the Left has been lying, calling leftwing extremists 'fair-minded' and screeching whenever a decend judge of the law comes around (Scalia, Thomas, etc).

Dont let the left's version of the nomination go unanswered.

The Leftists are not above lying, hypocrisy, or changing their tune. During CLinton administration, Schumer and Leahy were gnashing teeth about the 'obstructionism' of Senate for confirming only about 90% of CLinton's appointees. Now Schumer and Leahy are confirming less than ONE THIRD.

The Left is relentless. Dont let them get away with the Pickering smear unanswered. Write letters to the editor and let this columnist know that the EXTREMISTS are the one on the LEFT. Leftist special interests shouldnt be picking our judges. But they did this week. Maybe that will wake up the mushy middle. they

So you know WHO TO WRITE TO FREEP THIS GUY AND HIS EMPLOYER. He is not PFAW, he's a columnist. He can be held publicly accountable, unlike Ralph Neas and co. I suggest a letter to the editor with your best refutation. if you did 1000 times, 1001 should be no-brainer.

I'm afraid the barf alert was not sufficient warning for this column. Trevor Coleman is a vicious, lieing bag of excrement.
