Lt. Horace Crouch, "Sally" to buddies since his early teen-age years in Columbia, hunkered down in the bombardier's position in the Plexiglas nose of a B-25 bomber and watched anxiously for the USS Hornet's deckmaster to signal pilot Richard Joyce.

This reunion should be put on prime time FOX and all the other TV in a grand fashion. All these heros will be soon gone so nows the time to recognize their courage.

Doolittle, an old-school, try-anything, leather jacket pilot who learned to fly in
an open cockpit, would receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. He died in 1993 at age 97.

I remember reading an article on the raid in the Smithsonian Magazine.
Once Doolittle got to China, he sat for a bit next to the wreckage of his B-25 and
said to himself something like "They're going to court-martial me for this".

I suspect that was one of few occassions when Doolittle was totally wrong.

I still can't help groaning to think that Alec Baldwin got to portray Doolittle in
"Pearl Harbor".

My hat is off to these bomber crews! It would be a great privilage to sit down and talk with anyone of these hero's!..

I would have loved seeing the movie that they just made about the Dolittle raids but it is a slap in there face to have Alec Baldwin cast as Gen. Dolittle so I will pass.

Soon, those remaining will return

Terrible. Don't these people realize they're violating the *gasp* NAACP boycott?

To all lurkers and posters:

If you haven't ever gotten to see a B-25 up close, this event would be a knock-out!

I got to see one at the "Salute To Veterans" airshow put on every Memorial Day in
Columbia, MO.

The B-25 makes a "beautiful noise" and just has about a sharp a look as you can get
out of a multi-engine plane.
There's a reason Mel Gibson made a B-25 a co-star in "Forever Young"!

(OK, I got to see a B-17 at that show and it's very cool as well.)

Pardon the ping if it's an intrusion, but I did find the website for the event.
If your computer is sound-enabled, it opens with a nice sound file of a B-25 flying past
(I presume it's a B-25!)

The site is at

What do you wanna bet this gets no media coverage? The media is too busy chasing Hollywood gossip stories and minorities who are persecuted because they don't get special treatment.
