"About 47 percent of black households could be considered middle income in the year 2000, according to an analysis of census data by the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, a think tank focusing on black issues. By contrast, about 64 percent of white households were middle income."

What are they still complaining about, then? Nevertheless, renewed welfare reform only NARROWLY passed in the House this evening. The Senate could be an obstacle to making it law unless we somehow fortify the reformers.

Meanwhile, a federal appeals court in Michigan threw out a federal district judge's ruling this week, thereby allowing the admissions department of Michigan Law School (and many others) to continue their racial spoils (affirmative action) programs (THREAD). The Supreme Court might nevertheless opt to help rescue blue collar caucasian (etcetera) potential applicants to schools like Michigan, and U.Va. Law (U.Va. Law Admissions Scandal THREAD). However, if the Bush Administration doesn't sense that it can gain political support by siding against quotas, it might not. Shall we lend their more conservative elements our support?

If we don't stand our ground and finally regain that which was stolen from us then as the linked Washington Times article suggests, guess what could be next: "Reparations" for slavery (at innocent folks' expense). There are already some class action lawsuits filed nationwide, citing as one precedent the compensation taxpayers gave to Japanese American WWII internment victims here after the war that Japan declared on us.

Do some people not seem to hope that we have forgotten that fewer than 10% of Southerners even had slaves? Should descendants of the rest of the Southerners (and of subsequent immigrants, too) REALLY have to pay for the deeds of African warlords who aggressively peddled their captives and other undesirables as slaves, thereby putting slaveless plantations at an unfair competitive disadvantage? Haven't we sacrificed ENOUGH since the thwarted War of Southern Independence 150 years ago? Did the heavy handed-types not use slavery mainly as a justification for their carpet-bagging pillaging and plundering of America? Doesn't such plundering continue to this day, as D.C.'s and state-level bureaucrats leech off of us through the IRS? Will we eternally be subject to oppressive regulations that make us all vulnerable to extortionist multi-million dollar lawsuits that enable folks like Jesse Jackson (and other Democrat campaign supporters) not to work or pay any taxes?

Some media outlets are trying to make welfare reform and quota quota abolishment seem unjust (THREAD) but we can stand up to those outlets too. Shall we take our country back for future generations's sake? Should we continue to give a few people free rides on the basis of pigmentation and violent whining even as our record high $6 trillion dollar national debt only continues to grow?

"only" 64%?

Are you assuming that the only alternative to middle class is upper class?

No I'm NOT assuming that, and that's why it's time to stop allowing the bureaucrats to play favorites merely on the basis of pigmentation. Do you agree?

From the article:

Reparations advocates "know most white Americans are not going to stand up against it for fear of being called a racist," Mr. Peterson said. "Recent people — immigrants who come here legally — will they have to pay? This is just another shakedown." It's an argument Mr. Winbush said he encounters frequently: "My ancestors didn't own slaves, so why do I have to pay for something I didn't have anything to do with?" He answers by citing the $20,000 paid to each Japanese-American held in internment camps during World War II. "It's American as apple pie to pay taxes or whatever for what this nation did," Mr. Winbush said.

Well that $20,000 was paid directly to the individuals who were interned. If there is anybody alive today who was a slave before 1861, I don't think anybody would have a problem paying that 150-year-old $20,000.

Also, how is middle-class defined? I think you would need at least $100,000 a year in income in order to be defined as middle class today.

Whatever the definition of "middle class" is, it was embraced by that abovementioned think tank which focuses on black issues and which said that there's nearly as high a percentage of middle class blacks as there are middle class whites.

If we're to expect African Americans to finally want to fight against tax increases and rampant bureaucracy, don't they need to be subject to the same harshness to which the rest of us are? Right now the bureaucrats use blacks in their own photo-ops in order to justify their own statist programs which keep such bureaucratic leeches employed. Anybody who opposes such programs therefore seems racist, or so the bureaucrats and their pet government contractors hope.
