Bonds' home run record could very well be related to the use of steroids, just as Mark McGwire's. However, with new baseballs being made of new materials, and they even FLOAT now, for Pete's sake. There are many contributing factors other than the use of "medications". Poor pitching might just have a little to do with it!

All that said, I remember Canseco from his days in Oakland, running other cars off the road doing 90 mph up to his condo above San Ramon and flying through the security gate in total disrespect of others' safety. He was (and still is) nothing more than a punk. I would take anything he says with a huge block of salt.

Probably the biggest contributing factor was that he avoided injury for most of the season. Bond's is notoriously fragile and usually misses close to 1/4 of the season. The baseball talking heads have been saying since the McGuire-Sossa home run race that if Bonds could ever stay healthy he'd be a contender. There were a couple of times he was on pace to beat 61 deep into the season then got wounded. Now roids might have contributed to that, certainly greater muscle mass does contribute to durability and help avoid injury, but when it comes to that roids are no substitute for actually working out which also strengthens your tendons and bones.

Really?

As a kid playing sandlot, our field had a pond in right field and a "ponder" was a ground rule double, while both teams searched for the ball.
