I love the spin they put on these stories. Ten soldiers? Nah, only three. Shot up the car? Nah, just the rear window. And besides, they were chasing Mexican drug dealers, so it's okay. They shot at a clearly marked INS vehicle manned by uniformed INS officers because they were "antsy". Uh-huh.

Maybe the uniformed Mexican soldiers were the drug dealers, and shot at the INS for this very reason. I doubt that even the Mexican military shoots suspected smugglers on sight, or that it is too "antsy" to tell the difference between a smuggler and an INS officer. Nor does shooting at a fleeing INS vehicle sound like standard policing behavior.

Nice to see that the INS's standard policy when confronted by deadly force is to flee. Makes me less than comfortable knowing that this undermanned agency is all that is "defending" our borders.

A U.S. agent spotted three Mexican soldiers in a Mexican Humvee on U.S. soil and was attempting to leave the area when the rear window of his vehicle was apparently shattered by gunfire, she said. The agent was leaving the area "in an effort to avoid a confrontation" with the Mexicans,

I caught that too. What is up with that? Leaving to avoid a confrontation?!

The INS has lost about 110 officers since 1926-more than twice as many as any other Federal agency during the same period. It is the gutless paper-pushing management that enforces this policy.Every day I am more glad I retired when I did.
