I believe that the word "homophobia" was classified as an actual psychological disorder in the DSM III. The term was originally from clinical psychology; it was removed in the DSM IV.
Of course, homophobia has absolutely nothing to do with the way liberals use it. It is a politically motivated smear, nothing more.
