National news channels should always cut away for NASA events. Who doesn't love watching this stuff?

Hell yes I heard ..and felt it that was a big one

I agree about news channels coverage - they miss the boat on the big stuff and concentrate on nonsense idiocy!

"Who doesn't love watching this stuff?" Any woman. Shuttles, ya see, don't have "emotion."
I'd like to have all the shuttle landings shown with the heads-up display the pilot uses to fly the approach. CNN, believe it or else, actually showed an entire approach live and had the heads-up on the screen with a newsie 'splainin' what we were seeing.

So does anyone still go up to Edwards to watch the landings? I blew off high school several times to go up there as a kid. The very first time I went was to watch the Enterprise on its maiden flight.

They would definitely cover the shuttle landing, if you could get a cop car to chase it down.

on its maiden flight. Piggybacked on a jet? Enterprise never got into space, as I recall.

Yup. On the back of a 747. I'm not sure, but I think that it was the same 747 that they'll use to return Endeavor to Florida.

Damn sonic boom was cool! It was much louder than I'd ever heard it before, I thought it was a car backfiring a few blocks away at first. Had car alarms going off, dogs barking like mad...

Weather just too bad here at the Cape.
One thing about the sonic booms...they'll startle the h*ll out of you even if you're expecting them.
To: tscislaw
This definitely was the loudest sonic boom Iv'e ever heard! Totally cool!

They did that!
Of course the papers have been full of the stories about a ship with 40 Terriorists coming to LA to cause havoc.
That was my first thought as to the cause of the noise!

Has anyone seen info on when Endeavor will hitch the ride home to Florida? I didn't find anything on the NASA website. I saw one of the early shuttles piggy-backed years ago. It was astounding.
When was the last landing at Edwards?
To: NautiNurse
When was the last landing at Edwards?I think it landed and Edwards a few years ago, made the final approach in from the ocean.
Back when the shuttle was a new thing, '81 or so, it landed at Edwards due to weather problems in Florida. Made the final approach longways down California over the central valley. Hellava sonic boom! Scared the daylights out of me! I thought there had been some kind of nearby explosion. Then heard on the news the shuttle had landed.

Wow! That was loud!
We heard it here in Kanagawa Prefecture, just south of Tokyo.... ;-)

Just last week a buddy of mine returned some ORIGINAL pictures I took at sunrise the day they moved the shuttle down the road from Rockwell's plant to Edwards.
My buddy is still in the selection process to become an astronaut.

We hear the sonic boom in my area of the FL Gulf coast just about every other landing. Another poster was spot on saying it's still incredibly startling even when you are expecting it!
I would really love to see the shuttle during its piggyback flight home--haven't seen that since the early '80s.
