Well, if they did provide a male mentor to a girl, he could be open to allegations of sexual harassment/abuse. It's sad that more girls don't have father figures, but I don't know that a "Big Brother" to a girl would really work in this context. Maybe a male coach in a team sport, where they're not alone together, would be better.

I agree. No male watches over a girl more protectively than the girl's (real) father. It's a shame so many girls don't have one around.
