Methinks you are correct. In my readings the only people Jesus slammed on were the religious leaders of the day. The sinners he merely said "Go, and sin no more". Not that that is an easy assignment.

That's only one story. If you read more carefully you will see that Jesus was never soft on sin. However, he saw sin more as a heart issue than as an activity issue.
