Two little words, so much controversy.

A highway billboard sponsored by Tulare-Kings Right to Life that says "Abortion Sucks" is angering some motorists, even some who say the words degrade their anti-abortion stance.

But others say they're glad to see a message that gets to the point.

"It goes beyond good taste," said Merced resident Sheila Stark, who has called local authorities to complain about the sign. "Merced people who go that way often said they can't stand driving through that area. I'm sure there are thousands of people who object to the sign."

Translation: Free speech sucks...

Freedom of speech bothers some more than others, apparently.

"But this one really bothers me," she said. "It's red and looks like blood."

Well, no sh*t, Sherlock. Kinda reminds you of something else that's red and looks like blood, doesn't it? If you're pro-choice, be proud of it, you silly Merced person.

Even as an abortion-rights advocate, Stark said she would ordinarily support the anti-abortion organization's right to advertise its views.

Oh, I'm sure.

"But this one really bothers me," she said. "It's red and looks like blood."

Are you saying the sign sucks?

Waaahhh! Glad she "ordinarily" supports free speech.

What do the anti-smoking nazis advertise: Truth Infects? Well, let's hope for an epidemic concerning abortion.

This has to be the greatest idea for a billboard since I don't know what! This is genius!

To Ms. Stark: The TRUTH hurts. It should bother you and everyone else.

"Abortion is Violent" - I like that one, too, and didn't I see a banner that reads, "Abortion Causes Breast Cancer" somewhere out there? Hats off to the local pro life group! For victory & freedom!!!

I think we should have more billboards up around the state with simple, clear and hard-hitting messages on abortion.

Personally, I don't particularly like the foul language. My daughter heard "sucks" on television and used it in a sentence (appropriately), and I told her it was a bad word and she couldn't say it anymore or she'd be grounded.

If she saw this (because she can read), what am I supposed to say? "Well, honey, it's OK to swear when it's important."

Anyway, I'm not being critical, just pointing out, as a mom, some of the problems with signs like this. I'm all for spreading the message, and this is a free speech issue so I wouldn't advocate forcing them to take it down, I just hope in the future they think of something else. Like

ABORTION KILLS

ABORTION KILLS - that works. But I still think the "abortion sucks" message hits the mark.

It hits the mark, I agree, but I'm just thinking about how to explain double standards to young kids.
