How low the Rats have sunk, that being the case. The Love and Lust of and for Power, in and of itself, is leading them to disaster. Unfortunately, they forget all about the damage that will be done "to the children". Sad.

If the FBI has the $1,600 TV in question, along with the receipt showing Mr. Chang purchased it, and the delivery receipt it seems The Torch has not only lied to the people, but possibly to the Senate Ethics Comittee.

Therefore, since we know democrats do not recognize perjury as a crime, Sen. Torricelli will walk.

It's pathetic when you compare Traficant to Torricelli.

You watch, somehow, some way, this will be the Republican's fault. We either set him up or he was traumatized in early childhood by an overbearing mother and a Republican father. Either way the dems will cover it up.

Torch never lies.</ sartcasm>. For God's sake, he was elected on a lie. He promised to support tax cuts, was elected and then changed his mind after reconsideration.

Torch is a scumbag with a capital S.

The Torch will get a fine and censure that will be it! Besides even if he is expelled which is highly unlikely, the Republicans in New Jersey could not win a Senate Seat if they were the only Party left. Besides there is no difference between the Parties in New Jersey.

I smell a rat. I suspect a rather cynical attemp by Torricelli and his democrat frinds to get him a second clearing.

The use of the term "ethics committee" when used to describe a group that includes Democrat Senators somehow strikes me as funny. McCain won't have to go far to get material for his SNL appearance.

Torch remembered watching the Kefauver hearing on TV as a child, too.

Being a democRat will not in an or itself save the Torch if the party feels they could benefit from dumping him.

They have nothing to fear if he is ousted. As a senator, a replacement would be named by New Jersey's democRat governer.

No one in their right mind believes that this replacement would be a Pubbie. Hence, Daschle's majority would remain intact (at least until Nov. 2002)

Chang is currently serving 18 months in a federal prison after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice, as well as making more than $50,000 in illegal contributions to Torricelli's 1996 campaign.

Every time I read about this I wonder how on earth it is possible for someone to be convicted of making illegal campaign contributions while the recipient is innocent of illegal receipt of said contributions. I'd love for someone to explain to me how this is legally possible. And what motivation would Chang have for making illegal contributions in the first place if they were completely one-sided?

Maybe, but the added pressure due to Traficant being tossed is gonna tighten some butts on the left side of the aisle.

Dude, you just gave me a brainstorm. I know a guy who owns one of the best Italian restaurants in New Jersey, and I'm going to see if he has any ideas about creating a "Pasta Torricelli" dish during this election season.

Everyone who orders this dish will get a free entry in the Election Day raffle -- the grand prize for this raffle, of course, will be a $1,600 television.

I don't know which would be smarter politically-- dump Torch and have Forrester win automatically (unless a Democrat decides to run as an independent) or try to see if Torch can still win re-election with this cloud on his head. Torch will be on the ballot, as you say, regardless.

Send the idea to Forrester-- he'll make sure it happens. It's a brilliant idea-- and it makes the point very subtly and with humor. Forrester needs to use the issue without looking like an attack dog.
