Janitor At WNYC [PUBLIC] Radio Accused Of Giving Donor Records To Identity-Theft Ring

Law enforcement officials revealed Thursday that a janitor at a New York City public radio station was arrested earlier this month for stealing credit card and personal check information from the station’s donor rolls, then selling the data to a major identity-theft ring.

The New York Post reports Friday that 198 donor records from WNYC – a National Public Radio affiliate based in the city - were found in possession of an identity-fraud ring. The probe into the multi-state ring began last July.

The maintenance worker was arrested on July 15, and is now facing grand larceny and conspiracy charges. He has since been fired.

Two weeks ago, two men were arrested in Westchester for using stolen identities to purchase over $100,000 worth of merchandise over the Internet.

The janitor obviously learned his crime from when PBS stations swapped donor lists with the DNC.

But NPR spokesperson Fern Librosaperstein assured donors who's identities and credit card information was left out for the janitor to steal, that they still would be qualifying for that canvas tote bag, with a Vagina Monologue graphic on one side and Juan Williams picture on the other.

Are they out of the "SAVE THE WHALES" t-shirt and the Fair Trade, organic or shade-grown coffee mugs with Linda W's picture?

I hope these victims realize the cruel role they played in this poor janitor's descent into crime and will band together to forgive themselves and each other. Perhaps they'll hold a candlelight vigil for safe passage on the janitor's journey toward healing when he seeks psychological help to cope with his tragic circumstance.
Of course, we all know our obligation to raise taxes so this man won't be further burdened with his own upkeep - he's been humiliated enough by his latest attempt at gainful employment!

I wonder if this janitor got his identity stolen, since the article does not give his name.

198 people is probably the entire WNYC donor list.
