Bush-Jiang Meeting Set for Oct. 25
Meeting Between President Bush, Chinese President Jiang Zemin Set for Oct. 25 at Crawford Ranch
KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine Aug. 2 It's a date: President Bush is hosting Chinese President Jiang Zemin at his Texas ranch on Oct. 25 for wide-ranging talks on the anti-terror war, weapons proliferation and other issues.
"This visit is an opportunity for the president to work with the Chinese leader on a number of areas of mutual concern and to make progress in resolving outstanding differences," White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said Friday in a statement.
A late-October summit between the two leaders was accidentally disclosed by State Department officials earlier in the week, before the official White House announcement.
Items on the Bush-Jiang agenda could include complaints from the Pentagon that China has not been eager to share intelligence on terrorism issues with Washington. The bipartisan U.S.-China Security Review Commission also recently issued a report saying China has violated pledges not to export missile-related technology and nuclear materials.
For its part, China objects to Washington's missile defense plans and U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.
Bush often uses his 1,600-acre spread in Crawford, Texas, to entertain world leaders
